The <a href="http://www.rpgdot.com/index.php?hsaction=10077&newsid=41106">very recently unveiled</a> "fantasy action epic" 'Elveon' from 10TACLE is going to be powered by 'Unreal III' technology according to a press release that 10TACLE issued at the Games Convention in Leipzig...<blockquote><em><strong>10TACLE license Unreal® Engine 3 for Elveon

<br>Games Convention 2005, Leipzig, Germany 19 August 2005</strong>: "Elveon", the project of 10TACLE STUDIOS Slovakia which is for the first time being presented to the general public at Games Convention 2005, will be based on the well-known Unreal® Engine 3. The major characteristics of this fantasy action epic are its impressive graphics and the captivating atmosphere. The middleware solution by Epic Games proved to be the ideal platform because of its excellent performance, features and toolset. The game which will be released for PC and next generation consoles therefore relies on a very promising technology.

<br>"Unreal Engine 3 has already proven to us that it is going produce fantastic results while saving us time and money on this project. It not only has fantastic graphics but also is on an advanced development stage which we need for a real next generation project such as Elveon. We are delighted to have found a really strong technology partner in Epic Games," Jürgen Reusswig, Managing Director 10TACLE STUDIOS Slovakia, explains.

<br>"We are very pleased that Elveon will be powered by Unreal Engine 3. The team at 10tacle Studios has impressed from the start and we are excited to be working with them. 10tacle has a great vision for Elveon and we look forward to seeing that vision realized." Epic Vice President Mark Rein comments on the ambitious project.

I'm wondering how such a small and unknown dev can fund such an expensive engine |

Great... now they just need to find a proper name for the game. There's no way something called Elveon will be a big seller, no matter what graphics engine it uses or how good it is. |

Maybe the engine isn't that expensive or they have start up money to burn and decided to gamble on making the product attractive and hope for the best.
Boy, if the engine is expensive, this could be the the first (?) and last game they make, if they don't get it right. |

There are often several payment alternatives for middleware (though I don't know if this is the case with the Unreal 3 engine). Apart from the obvious "pay right away" there are often "pay on release", royalty and/or a combination of the three. Not paying the whole sum right away often amounts to a higher fee in the end however. If such an alternative is available in this case they may be gambling on a hit that can pay for the engine. Judging from the video that seems rather far fetched however. |
