Gamers with Job's Elysium has written a fun piece titled the <a href="http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/23065" target="_blank">The Religion of Release</a> and looking at really anticipating an upcoming games - such as Oblivion:<blockquote><em>As the days of Oblivion approached, I had plenty of time to watch the psychology of the fan and all of its subtle permutations. I watched with a brand of abject horror, as the most vocal and intense segment of the fanbase began to speak of the game almost reverently, with traits that seemed religious in nature. Thou shalt have no game above the one true Oblivion. Thou shalt not use thy lord Oblivion’s name in vain. Thou shalt type in all capital letters and vulgar acronyms to really get thy point across. The most important element to this cult of Bethesda was what it most shared with religion, and that was unwavering faith on the part of its laity. Though these priests of Tamriel had never held the game, nor played it, nor been granted concrete evidence that this game would be as good as promised, their certainty was absolute.</em></blockquote> |

Yes, fantastic article. Well written.
I waste alot of bandwidth bashing alot of articles (despite never having the guts nor the talent to write one myself) so I would like to echo r3dshift in praising this one. |

Just one problem folks: Oblivion REALLY IS TEH BEST GAME EVAR!!! It is the Alpha and the Omega (as well as the Beta). It is the swallower of time and the smiter of low-to-mid range PCs. Verily it is the desktop messiah.
/cradles his collector's edition bible/manual and concordance/strategy guide close to his chest and quietly mutters, "Are you there Bethesda? It's me, Wildefire..."

LOL. Gotta agree though. It is, beyond any odubt, the best game ever. Actually, it's starting to feel as if it were my second (or first? ) life, not merely a game. I find myself musing on the bus over what equipment ot buy/sell, what skills to practice and what places to epxlore in Cyrodiil... 
BTW, I'm off to further adventures...
