1-H weapon or Str? (What to raise in first 5 levels?)

Hello!

Boy, must I say the early game is tough! If I am going to start over with my melee character, what should I raise first: 1-H or Str?

Also, how do you guys distribute your LP in early games (like in first 5 or 10 levels)? I meant, I tried to do as many quests as I could and killed as many creatures (which I could kill and not the other way around) as I could find, but leveling was still quite slow after a long time of play...

Thanks for your opinion!

Combat training is very important since it is the probability your hit will be a critical hit at strength plus weapon damage. A normal hit at small level is only about roughly 5 damage (NO matter what -does not depend on weapon).

Go pray at shrine of Innos with 100 gold per day only to get either a +1 STR or +4 hitpoints. Reload if not satisfied. You can do this up to 11 times. That is a free +11 strength without spending basic LP.

That is enough to wield a decent weapon. I would try to get combat rating to 30% and with this Str is at 21. Bonus to normal hit is 5+ (STR)/10.

After 30%, you must raise 2 h skill also inorder to raise 1 h further and cost you 2 LP until 2 h catches up to the break point of 30.

Get the free 2% bonus to combat 1 h (do it at 30 if you like saves LP) when speak to the militia trainer in barack Wulfgar between 5a-7a before other students start. It is a one time eagerness reward.

Go find the Ring of Power out in woods (look in threads for cheats where it is) for +5 STR. Later there are a couple of books to boost combat for 1 h and 2 h later; but not at the beginning.

Increasing your strength will increase the amount of damage you do with your sword. Increasing your skill will increase your speed and make new swings/combinations available to you. If it's between one or the other, I would think increasing strength would be most beneficial. If you want the game to be easiest, thereby enabling you to kill more creatures early in the game, then increasing your dexterity for using ranged weapons is your best option.

In the first chapter I'd recommend training your brewing skills only enough to either learn how to make strength potions or dexterity potions --not both. You should probably train in every trophy skill except for the dragon snapper horns. You don't really find any dragon snappers until you're ready to explore the Valley of Mines, and by that time you should have access to all the gold you could possibly need. You should decide whether or not you want to mainly use ranged weaponry or melee. If you choose ranged then focus on dexterity. If you choose melee then focus on strength. Whichever skill your not focusing on, you should only concern yourself with increasing it enough to satisfy the demands of your quests. (Example: One of the Mercenaries will have you prove your strength by seeing if you can handle his sword. You should increase your strength enough to do this.) You should keep in mind that you won't have enough level points in the game to fully train everything, so spend your level points according to how you want to accomplish things. Don't spend level points on things you won't use or benefit from.
