Rangers Ranged Critical?

I dunno if my game is bugged, I'm doing something wrong, or am just ridiculously unlucky. I'm in the beginning of the game (on my way to Trynton) but I've seen my Monk and Samurai both get a couple of instant kills. Howeever my Ranger I have never ever seen do anything more than do 3-7 dmg, no instant kills or anything. My dex/senses are both near 90 and my ranged combat skill is around 75. What gives??

Increase your Critical Strike skill.

Rangers don't have the critical strike skill, Val. Their insta-kill skill is based on their ranged combat skill. The bottom line is that they just don't get terribly many criticals. Additionally, your monk and sammy are probably getting more attacks per round than the ranger shoots arrows, which means they have more opportunities to get that lucky critical.

Rangers critical hits are rare. But later in game, they have bigger possibility to do this and so it was really handy several times.

I would have said that he needed a ranged weapon with the instant kill ability: Normally between 1 - 10 % instant kill chances.

While good ammo and/or a good bow will increase the odds, a ranger can get critical hits with a short bow and standard arrows. It just won't happen very often.

Ok, thanks, dunno why but right after I posted this and got all the replies I started to crit with him :\ more than my monk and samurai now... strange. Maybe because of the better bow or something.

:] It is normal thing. Everytime something is broken and I am not able to fix it and I bring it in market with complaints, they just push the ON button and everything is working. However when I bring it back its again broken...
We call it Murphys Laws (do not know how to translate it, but you probably know what I am talking about).

Stick with your ranger

I have one at level 16 and he's a regular assassin with all the crits he gets. He's got the hunter's bow and armor piercers.
