Farewell to a legend

Legendary cartoonist Will Eisner passed away January 3, 2005 at the age of 87. This man was the mentor of some of comic books' most influential artists and writers. People like Bob Kane (ceator of Batman), Lou Fine, and Jack Kirby (the "The King of the Comics", you've undoubtly heard of his creations and co-creations: The Fantastic Four, The X-Men, The Incredible Hulk, and many more). Will Eisner gave these guys their big break.
Eisner's most famous character was The Spirit. Eisner has been cited as an inspiration by comics' creators from all corners of the genre, and his influence is seen as widely. He was one of the most active, vital, and prolific forces in the comics' field today. He changed the comic book industry for the better.

That's a shame. Sad to hear him go.

Thanks for posting this Val. I had not heard about his death. I read hundreds of Spirit comics as a kid (reprints, of course) and loved them all. You can definitely see how Mr. Eisner's art style influenced other comics artists. I still own a copy (reprint, again) of A Contract with God. It's great reading. It's a sad event.

My condolences,. Although I never heard of him, I do know some of his comics.
