So, I just found Gothic in the stores, and I'm very impressed, I wished I would have heard about this game earlier.
I think I may have a problem here.
*****SPOILERS**************
Ok, so I'm in the Old Camp's mine. I found my way to the bottom and the minecrawlers. (By the Ore pile and the slave orc.) I figured out pretty quick if I lured the bugs toward the templars, they'd kill them for me and I could go on and find what was beyond.
I started reading the FAQ today and it tells me that no named NPC's can die here...a digger at the bottom, don't know his name, is definately dead on the floor near the place you find potions on the floor. Am I screwed at this point? Do I have to reload? None of the templars died, but a couple no-name guards did.
************************
A side note: Yo! Piranha! Get yerselves a new marketing team, this game rocks and nobody has heard of it! You guys beat Morrowind to the punch.

Sounds okay.
The named templars are needed later, but the noname guards are unimportant. And even if an important character gets killed you can reinsert him.

that stupid Mud bastard, he's gotten me killed a couple of times, arrrrrrghghghgh. "Boy I'm getting used to you already!"
The best part of the game so far was me managing to get Mud stuck between a pack of wolves, ahahahahahahah
BTW, thx for the quick response, guys.
EDIT: How do you "reinsert" a character? I didn't see this in the FAQ...

You insert people like you do items. You can get their codes here.

My reflection of that: MY A$$ THEY DO! If Morrowing even has 1/10th as many bugs and crashes as Gothic has they still have WAAAAY to many. Gothic is the most unstable and bugged out RPG I've ever played, Phirana can't have playtested it for more than 10 minutes at most. |

When game crashes on your PC, it doesnt necessarily mean it is unstable.
For me was Gothic perfectly stable.
Ond there was only one bug - famous whinch bug.

I don't know if I've encountered the winch bug or not. I have gone to the "Skull" mine/cavern/whatever, got a message that "This winch is stuck", didn't know (and still don't) know what to do about it. I'm only on chapter 2. I tried it again a while later and my character just shrugs. Is it broken? (no spoilers please)
I also encountered a weird bug - sometimes my controls lock up. I can mouselook up and down, look at my inventory, and look at my task list, but I can't do anything else. It's happened during conversations.
I have had two crashes to desktop in probably 25 hours of gameplay, and one of those is because Gothic apparently crashes if your monitor goes into suspend mode (I was on the phone.) |

Winch bug - NEVER EVER touch a winch until you have the quest to do so, otherwise the winch may not work when you need it to.
As for the crashes, how much RAM do you have? I've heard that if you don't have a decent amount the game will crash often.

your not supposed to go their untill your told, the time will come, until then those little "bugs" are called minecrawlers and their easy to kill so dont run away.

Itīs possible this is the winch bug. Which location exactly are you talking about? If you donīt know it look at the map on GothicDot.
Some detailed solutions can be found in my thread in the t&t forum. |

I have half a gig of ram plus 800 megs of swap, so I doubt if ram is the problem. I think there's a memory leak, since before/after free memory comparisons indicate one.
Bummer...I did try the winch out. I haven't tried the other one in the old camp mine though.
