(yet another) Wizardry newbie |
|
Hi
After having finished Gothic last week (see my post somewhere in the
Gothic forum) I decided to buy Wizardry 8 and I'm planning to play it
at the same time I'm continuing Morrowind.
Just for those interested, it seems custom here to talk about our chosen
party, I've started playing with:
Lizard - Fighter
Human - Monk
Halfling - Ranger
Halfling - Bard (female)
Dwarf - Priest
Human - Mage
I just have a few questions, I'll be grateful if someone can help me.
1. Can monk wear armor without penalty, is it better to leave them without
any?
2. How can you identify item with the artifact skill, is it automatic, and can
you get a second chance to id an item if you failed the 1st time?
I guess that's the question I have for the moment. Thank you! |

Welcome!
I'd probably switch the race of my mage to take advantage of better starting stats. All the others will undoubtly work fine. Although I'd still want a dracon for my fighter, but that's just my personal preference.
1. Monks can only wear certain types of armor and they aren't penalized for it. The only penalties that can happen are when you over-burden the character, they have a condition, or they have a cursed item on.
2. The artifact skill works automatically. You can aways retry identifying an item when your skill rises or by casting the Identify spell. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

Glad to be here
Thanks for your quick answer Val.
Concerning the mage race switch, I'll stick with a human, even though as
you say it could be better stat wise.
With a few exception I'm not a big fan of "strange race" (and I hate elves). My Lizardman is really cool with a dumb voice, dwarf really make nice looking priest and halfling are my favorite race. As a matter of fact, I was
thinking of making an halfing only party, well, maybe next time.
Oh, one more thing, is it really worth it to install the "speed combat patch"? |

Actually, I thought of trying an all hobbit party as well. They are the best all-rounder race in the game IMHO. They perform well as any class if you plan them right.
Unfortunately, I never tried out the speed patch. I played Wiz8 when it first came out and I could never find the patch when it was 'released'. I heard that it can save you a whole lot of time though. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

Danicek: Can you take two minutes when you'll have the time and send
me the patch? Unless you know where to get it somewhere else, I tried
finding it yesterday withouth any success.
Just send it to my nick @ hotmail.com.
Thank you
About the hobbit party, one of my concern is the lack of portraits, I actually
don't remember if there is enough for all of them to be different. |

That's why you can pick a picture from a different race. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

Val: I guess I'm too much of a purist to accept seeing an halfling with a
dwarf portrait I need to tell you I'm the kind of guy who can think up
to 10 minutes to find a name for a character..
Danicek: Thank you, I'm gonna try it tonight, I'm at work right now.
I have a course after work, I'll try to play tonight before going to sleep . |

Then think up an interesting backstory for the character. Like they were cursed at birth to look like a monkey and choose a mook picture. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

Val, that's simply brilliant thinking.
For the less creative thinkers amongst us, I'd recommend using the gnome portraits. That gives you a couple more options for each gender. The looks are close enough that it probably won't insult your senses. _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

I happen to think the gnome smoking his pipe looks very hobbit like. He looks like he could be related to me, in fact. _________________ The world itself shifts and changes and fades to mist like the strings of a minstrel's harp, and mayhap the dreams we forge are more enduring than the works of kings and gods.-Robert E.
