WOW the City Runs like crap!
   

is it me or does the city run really bad for you? every other area is fine because most of it is open land but the town runs really bad , im guessing 10-15

Yep i got it too.

Boggin down like a mofo in the city, and in the wilderness it's all good when view put back to 300.....

I haven't played G2 yet. But I'm guessing it's the textures slowing you boys down.

Newer games demand more than 64MB DDR vid card memory now-a-days.

Sadly, I only have a GF3 w/ 64DDR. I hope someone finds the reason for the slow downs by the time I get G2 in my hands.

The GeForce3 is good enough.
300% viewing distance is meant for high end systems only. 3 GHz, 1 GB RAM, etc.
G2 runs a lot faster than Gothic on 90% of the map.

Yep...The system slows and gets jerky in the city but I think it’s due to all the action that is taking place in the city that you can see. It is definitely a visual thing because when I turn down a ally the system speeds up.

They are, but most of the models are low quality (low polygons).
Maybe it's your CPUs that can't handle the massive amount of ai... Or it could be the textures are too high.

Either way, 100% view distance was restricting in Gothic 1. So I'm hoping to run around with 300% view in G2.

Probably cause of all the big houses are together with the ppl standing around , i have to lower it to 80/80 distance and i can run around decent

I don't know if this'll help you or not but it seemed to give me much better framerates all over (apart from the few seconds when loading stuff into memory for the first time)

Edit your gothic2.ini file (system folder)

change geforce3HackWBufferBug=1 to 0

This will likely cause strange flickering in the game, so...

change zSkyRenderFirst=1 to 0 in order to sort this.

You can also edit the amount of ram allocated to textures somewhere in there. As I say, I don't know if this'll help you but it certainly did for me. You can always switch them back again afterwards.

(Also - don't switch on the quicksave function, bad thng seemed to happen to me when I did)

Quicksave is still not 100% stable. Thatīs why itīs not officially supported. I had no problems with it because I only used it when I was doing nothing. Quicksave during a fight will most likely result in a broken savegame.

Again, it's unsupported and you have to enable it.
If you use it - never save in dialogs or interactions.
