Just how much editing will the editor allow?

I'm just wondering...will the editor just be a tool for designing new dungeons to hack through or will I be able to actually *write a story* and use the editor to execute it via the dungeon siege engine?

I haven't played DS yet BTW...I'm not too much into RPGs w/o much story, for example...despite not liking the engine (infinity?) driving the game Planescape:Torment, the story was stellar so I played it happily. (But geeze I get tired in the Baldurs Gate games of having characters get lost or stuck while walking around the cities...tired of having to monitor their every step to make sure they're headed the right direction)

So...I'm looking heavily at the newer games with editors with them like DS, or NWN (not Morrowind since my computer doesn't meet the minimum standards I can't upgrade the video since it's a laptop). I'd be in heaven if even one of these games had an editor that was robust enough to let me create my own story, dialog trees, etc.

So...does anyone know how much the DS editor will allow me to do?

Thanks,
Ceci

Nobody except Gas Powered Games knows for certain, but the word on the street is it will let you do quite a bit.

They have said it is better and will do more than when they used it to make the game itself. Therefore everything you see in the game is possible, plus more. There is supposedly a more complex dialogue system built into the game as well.

You will be able to make your own maps, set up creatures and events, make it follow a storyline, make new items, change the physics of the world, many things. People are planning on making completely different games using the same engine. This would require making new models for all creatures, people, locations-- quite a lot of work.

I'm definately looking forward to playing with the editor all weekend, since it comes out on Friday. I'm glad they are releasing a good set of tutorials along with it to help you learn how to seige edit.

Have fun, and be sure and tell us when your siegelet is out!

Ooooo, this sounds promising! I may run on out and buy DS just because of the editior. I've had urges to want to create my own RPG for a long time now. Maybe the newer games with editors will finally let lots of folks express their creativity. This could be a fun time.
