World visuals of Gothic II?

What do you all think of the new world of Gothic, the matter of size aside? It looks to me as though it's leaning more towards a traditional/LOTR style appearance, with tudor style homes and traditional castles, opposed to the rather gloomy/decrepit nature of Gothic I. Brighter colors, more varied landscapes ... in fact, it reminds me a little of Zelda 64, though in a considerably more realistic vain.

Do you like this difference, if you even feel it's much different to begin with?

Well, there aren't any elves in Gothic and I'll doubt it'll showcase any town to the likes of Rivendell or Lothlorien.

Gothic took place in a prison. Gothic 2 is real world... and should have no excuses being drab, although I feel Gothic 1 was colourful enough.

I just want some chicks to kill... like in CS Italy.

...Gothic 1 is not that gloomy, is it?...

Do you go right? Or do you go left? A simple decision, yes? No ambiguities. Only the dream of the path not taken! And so one might stand in this place and contemplate for a long while. What will I miss if I go left? What will I lose if I go right? And in my indecision, have I chosen a worse fate?

Well. it may not be gloomy exactly ... I suppose it's just the general aura and atmosphere of the game. Because it generally takes place in a prison, that feeling is relayed to the player. Sort of dark, and adult-oriented. But even the visual flair of the game seems quite a bit darker to me than, say, Ultima 9 or even Morrowind. Sort of a muddier feel. The lack of real cities (which will be seen in Gothic II) make it feel sorta drab. Not that this is bad. It's great, and no other game has played like Gothic. But, with the exception of say a Fallout, its definitley one of the "gloomer" RPGs I've played. But Fallout indeed ... talk about gloomy. I didn't even attempt to finish that game, it was just so ... wretched, and ... and gloomy.

The change fits the new setting GII. In fact, I think it will quite intriguing to explore this "new" world.

Well... you'd think. And you may well be right. After all Gothic 2 is everything that was great about Gothic, plus improvements from player input.

But for me, I'd still like to play it before I declare its tons better than Gothic.

pessimists surround!

Gothic2 will be visually better than G1 two-fold

Gothic2 will be an improved RPG than G1

Gothic2 will be BETTER than G1 (sound, models, effects, monsters etc)

Makes sense to me!

Gothic 1 didnt ruled in size, graphics or amount of monsters.
It ruled in storyline and structure.

We dont know anything about this in G2 so far.

Best Regards
