And that it will come a Expansion to Galaxies...pretty cool heh??

It looks very cool so far and it should be out early next year.

Why do people do this to themselves? And then they blame it on the company... (I know it's the marketing department that starts the hype, but people should know better by now!)

Age and personal experience come to mind

Honestly, it does look cool, yes. And the thought of being able to live the life of a bounty hunter running after his paycheck is appealing. But I agree we should be on our guards when talking about any MMORPGs. On paper it all looks fine, but how will it play?

As for the due date, they still say Q4 2002, but knowing the history of MMORPGs, I wouldn't be surprise if they wait a bit longer than that. It all depends on how well the beta goes.

MoonDragon, you strike me as a very cynical person. Just a thought.

PS. I had a lot of thoughts about buying it, then I started wondering if it really was up to the hype. So I signed up for the beta a couple of months ago, and will *propably* make it in by Stage 2 or 3. I'll keep you guys informed on how the beta goes, mmkay?

I'd say too much experience in life. My pink glasses are broken. Too many bandwagons by now I guess.

The problem is that SW is so clearly trying to pump the hype and people are just playing into it. To the point where they so emotionally invested that they cannot afford to believe anything else any more. This is also why people get so negative when their bubble finally bursts. We've all witnessed acts of extreme fanatical negativism. And we all wonder why.

--Edit--
For the record, I'm very enamoured by it as well. But I refuse to give into the "this game will absolutely rock" type of a frame of mind. Chances are I'll buy the thing when it comes out (unless it costs more than CDN$80, as some of the new games are starting to). But I'll also buy it fully expecting a buggy POS product that AO was when it came out. As is, they could probably release SW today and they would still make a killing financially. Even with all the people who got it complaining and warning and saying it sux, others would still flock and buy just because "this game will absolutely rox0r!"

I agree with Moondragon, as soon as I saw SW:Gakaxies I wasn't going to be hyped up over it: its going to be another level up treadmill, just like Everquest, only with deformed droids instead of big-head dwarves.

Sorry but so far the MMOG market has failed me so far... with the best being Ultima Online because it has a skill based system... not just a fighting orgy.

SWG is a skill based system just like UO ; but I agree with MoonDragon on the game hyping part. For the UO oldies, SWG is designed by DesignerDragon "Raph Koster".

Okey, my bad (new Alias).

Still, MMOGs have let me down so far.

Well, if we can stick together a ragtag group of people from around here, maybe it could become fun.

I'm not much of a SW fan, but it looks like this game will allow more freedom than any other game yet, and that makes it look interesting to me. And it looks like a good chance to earn great (virtual) wealth.
