Taking saved games with me

My Windows 98 installation is royally fucked. If I re-install with Windows XP, will my Gothic 2 savegames be loadable in my fresh install of Gothic 2?

I've never done this, so I can't say for certain, but I'd bet so, because a windows install won't just randomly delete and mess things up on your hard drive, just windows related things. So, your games should still be there, but whether they will work or not under a new operating system is unclear to me.

Any files you have in folders that windows creates, like My Music (does windows 98 even have a My Music folder), My Pictures, My Favorites (your internet bookmarks), My Documents, or your emails in Outlook, will be deleted, so you know.

I'd be backing my savegames up, completely wiping my harddisk, re-partition, installing the OS again. re-installing Gothic 2 and restoring my savegames. I suspect it won't be a problem, but who knows...
