Hi Raf
The most obvious new facility in ARX in comparison to the underworld games, is your casting spell system.
As far as I know, you still need to collect some runes, to be able to cast the different spells. But to cast the spell it self, you now need make a symbol shape gesture with your mouse. (Correct if I'm wrong).
I presume (and I'm only guessing)that you somehow needs to tell the game, that now you will try to cast a spell, and your mouse pointer will start drawing some lines.
Do your character have to stand still during spell casting? In the middle of the combat heat?
I presume the spell can backfire, if you draw wrong symbols, so I presume there will be a opportunity to break a started spell casting, or start over, if you know that you already have drawn something wrong?
Hope I'm not to early with these questions, I don't know if you already have completed all the features around spell casting yet.

Respawn : scenarically only, this means that some monsters will appear at different times of the game, but it's not the same monsters who 'resurect'.
Casting spells:
You're correct, you hold a key as you draw to tell the system you're casting. Therefore,
You can move while drawing. The backfire stuff is a tricky one, currently we removed it as casting a spell is challenging enough.
hope that helps... |

Do you guys feel you are going out on a limb by using some a different approach to spell casting? It seems most games try to make as easy an interface to spell casting as they can. This seems quite a few steps beyond easy, not to mention the thought of being gnawed on by some rapid beast while I am frantically trying to move my mouse around and cast a single spell. |

Hi Raf
Thanx for the info on casting.
Inventory & Item handling:
One of underworlds weakest features was it's inventory system, and now a days there are many smarter designs, I'm curios about what system you actually have chosen, or invented yourself?
Is each item handled by it's weigth, or how much room they occupy?
Can inventory ever get filled up?
Will there be any "quick items" features, for accessing items fast under combat situations?
Are we going to dress up a doll, to equip items?
Is accessing the inventory, pausing the game?
Is items automatically stored in your inventory when you pick them up?
Will there be any possibility to combine items? |
