How will weapons be balanced out now? |
|
Since they have dual weilding in now, what's going to be the plus/upside of sticking to either a two hander (I'd assume more dmg per hit, but slower) but what about one handed weapons?
If shields are in, then how will they be handled?
I really hope that shields aren't treated as they are in most other rpgs, as simple a defense only weapon and "bigger = better."
It'd be nice if they have like an Offensive based shield stance and defensive based one. Where the offensive based one allowed you to counter your enemy/bash him with your shield and the defensive based one was more geared toward blocking magic/arrows and such.
Naturally a buckler/smaller shield would be better for the offensive based while a larger shield works better to protect you against ranged based attacks.
That way those of us who would like to use a smaller shield won't be gimped for doing so like in most games where smaller shields suck/aren't good to use except as your starter shield (There's a reason bucklers outlasted bigger shields in the middle ages....). |

You can find several screens from the E3 2006 where the demo figure is holding a round shield made from wood and steel/iron.
According to an interview (no, I don't know which one) the shields are only going to be used for defence so better blocking.
That would make the differences as follows:
Dual-wielding: fast, less damage per hit
One-hander: better blocking with a shield
Two-hander: slow but with more damage per hit.
On top of that the different weapon types will have different special moves. _________________ "Who are we to call this planet Earth, when it's clearly Ocean."

So basically it's going to fall into the same "The bigger the shield is the better it is?" , I wish one, just one game would do shields right and stop equating their usefullness with their size, that's not how shields work.
It's not the size that matters in melee combat, it's how you use it :p. |

Here is the screen, as for me I think there will be some special combos with a shield, by the way it's one of my favorite screens...
