Will a Crpger enjoy Warcraft 3?

I'm a diehard crpger and I've only played a few games that weren't
crpgs. I've played and enjoyed the Heroes series and another game
called Conquest of the New World. My favorite part of any game is
exploration. I enjoy finding things and uncovering secrets. I also enjoy
puzzles and riddles. A good magic system can make or break a game
for me, but I'm indifferent to combat. I love manipulating character stats
and skills. Is there enough of this type of stuff in Warcraft. Please give
me your recommendations.

Despite Blizzards claims there really is no RPG elements in War3. I don't know if you'll like it, but if you are interested in Real-Time Strategy games War3 is probably the best on the market right now. If you want to try a RTS to see if you'd like it but don't want to pay for the ridiculous price for War3, try buying Warcraft 2 from the cheap bin or blizzard's site.

Depends on whether or not you like real-time strategy. Because no mistake about it, games like Warcraft III live and die by multi-player, and for most RTS in multiplayer, you have to be FAST in order to compete. Fast not just in clicking but in constructing efficient build orders. You have to learn how to quickly jump around to various parts of the map to give orders.

Now in single-player RTS campaign, you can pause and give orders, so that can help (like a bigger version of BG 2's combat system).

Warcraft III's main innovation is the hero system, but really that's just a window dressing for the game, which is combat combat combat.

Honestly there isn't much of what you said you enjoyed in WC3. There is a little character customisation, but to what extent it matters in the game remains unclear to me. The games is mainly about combat and defense, as are most strategy games. There are dialogues, but they are scripted ones, you don't get dialogue options. Puzzles? Riddles? Hmm.... You have to find out where the enemy hides on the map, does that count?

Really, I don't think WC3 qualifies as an RPG in the least bit. It's an RTS with heroes. Mind you, it's still a good game, but it's got nothing for you if what you want is an RPG.

Have to echo the comments from everyone else - it really has close to zero "real" RPG elements. I'd say it's classic RTS that Blizzard have tried to inject with more personality.

If you're going to try the RTS genre, this is probably the title to do it with. It's the best of it's class, a fantasy setting and the heroes mean there is less emphasis on typical RTS "tank rushes".

The pace in RTS is quite hectic, so if you like time to think and explore I'd think twice.

My opinion almost same with everybody here; Warcraft 3 does have few RPG elements like choosing magic to use, leveling, some exploration on maps and such. But it still heavily full with RTS gameplay; hectic pace, resources managements, expand your base, train army, structuring your armies, attack your enemies on suitable moments & such - basically every all the strategy elements. So as RPGs gamer, you won't enjoy very much. My gaming background started as FPS gamer, then as a RTS player (before finally RPGs), so there's still some enjoyment when i play Warcraft 3, especially the story is quite nice and obsolutely cool CGI's for movie cut scenes.

The only thing you would really like is the story. I believe that would hook you on the game. The RTS part is really not as hard as WC2 IMHO. I was pleasantly surprised by how it stuck on me. Now, I use it as a diversion from NWN and Morrowind.

If you like CRPG... then there's one word for W3. Bleeeaagh!

Like everyone said... there's some elements of RPG, but, really, its pitiful.

If you like RTS though... I guess it's amongst the greatest and newest out there.

Well...

Warcraft 3 is a pretty good game, but it's certainly not the best RTS out there. Starcraft and even warcraft 2 are more strategy based than Warcraft 3.

If you play nothing but RPGs, it won't win you. If you have some general interest in the RTS genre or just enjoy tremendously well done games, Warcraft 3 is recommended.
