The Witcher officially delayed to 2007 |
|
Included in CD Projekt Red's press release on their plans to show 'The Witcher' at E3 is the news that the official release date is now slated for "Spring 2007":
Scheduled for release in Spring 2007, The Witcher puts players in the role of the mysterious and legendary Geralt of Rivia, the most prominent of witchers, a brotherhood of mercenary monster-slayers. Players will embark on an enthralling journey set in the vivid universe created by multi-million-selling author Andrzej Sapkowski; a world in which the lines of good and evil are virtually non-existent. With more than 250 abilities to select, The Witcher features extensive character customization, further enhancing the intense real-time combat system which - coupled with the engaging story based on Sapkowski's books - creates a refreshing modern take on the traditional role-playing genre.
We'll update the release date in our database shortly. Thanks, Moriendor! |

I fear that by the time it gets released, it'll be utterly out-dated. I wish the developers proved me wrong, though. _________________ Don't work too much; it could interfere with your drinking. |

That's disappointing, I thought for sure we'd see that title by the end of this year. Sigh. |

I don't think you need to worry. The game looked fantastic at the Games Convention in Leipzig last year. OK, it won't be able to beat Oblivion and Gothic III will probably be better looking as well but it should be about on par with NWN2 at least (as far as one can tell from screens & videos of NWN2 so far). That is under the assumption that the graphics will not change from August last year until the release in spring 2007 so if CD Projekt have some "last minute" engine tricks up their sleeves, it might end up looking extremely well by the time of release. |

And here i was thinking RPGers were all about gameplay .. not fancy graphics.
I'm disappointed to read some comments on this thread |

My thoughts exactly guest. Gameplay and story and maybe art "style" are what make a great rpg/game. Just look at the wait as now we have Bioshock and Witcher to look forward to next year. And since im a man of few posts ill make this "off topic" rant. I never played any Elder Scrolls game previously, but bought and have been playing Oblivion and for all its strenghts it doesn't even make it in my top 20 games i've played. But I guess i've been spoiled by the gothic series:) To me Obivion is like the worlds best wax museum, its great but there's no emotion, or character depth. But hey I guess it's easier to place a note on a dead npc's corpse that script dialog to save them... |

I hope Oblivion teaches these companies an important lession. Gamers prefer twitch factor combat systems. CD Projekt should take note. Of course the "click to attack" method gives you time to eat some chips - but its still lame.
Use the time to rethink your combat system! 2 Worlds sounds equally lame BTW. _________________ "For Innos!" |
