That's the first time I've heard of this "fps patch". I tried searching all 3 Gothic 2 forums for any variations and wasn't able to come up with anything other than Gorath telling people to search for the patch. Can anyone provide me a direct link?

Does this also work with G1?

As far as I have understood, the patch is *only* for Gothic 1. It's available in Downloads/Gallery/Special.

Quick link:

Hope this helps! Don't ask me why it's in Gallery though..

elvenheart,

The VOM you see in Gothic I is much different. Yes, the general geography is the same, but the land does not have the scorched, barren look as it does in G2.

You get a much more colorful, greener, VOM in GI. Not to mention more areas to explore that were left out of G2 (a whole different Camp, many extra caves, different dungeons, etc.)

Please do not let this stop you from playing Gothic I.

Cheers elkston,

And no worries, I'm definitely going to check out Gothic 1 as soon as I have time.

I was only half-serious earlier when I said I hated the Valley of Mines in Gothic 2. To be honest, even though I was somewhat disappointed at the desolate scenery, I was probably more frustrated because in my opinion the game took a turn into your typical diabloesque hack'n slash direction in chapter 4. The whole chapter seemed somewhat rushed to me and it definitely wasn't up to par with the rest of the game. Oh well, you can't have everything, can you..?

Colourful and greener VoM sounds just great though!

The FPS patch is of course only for Gothic. Itīs in the gallery because we used the gallery as a temporary location and then never changed it. Detailed installation instruction can be found in the forum.

I agree, it certainly does give nice variation to the game. In a way it's all very well put together, I mean there is certainly a strong feeling of fear and despair present in the castle, like it really was the end of the world.

Mmm judging by the screenshots, the new valley in the addon NotR looks pretty amazing. Can't wait till I get to guide my steps down there..

Too bad there's still no sign of the english version and playing the german version with the translation just isn't the same for me. But that doesn't take away the fact that I'm eager to walk through those deserts and swamps.

Well....Gothic 1 VoM looked more alive. Gothic 2 VoM looks like a graveyard. That and evil probably tainted the land in G2 in VoM.

How can you say that! Stroll around in the snow at night near the ice dragon and tell me it is'nt peaceful AND beautiful. I have a save game I revisit to do just that....enjoy the peaceful serenity of the falling snow.
