PLEASE HELP! 0n (starting/completing) 'KOTOR' |
|
Hello KOTOR gamers:
I've started 'KOTOR' no less then three times. I think because I don't often play RPG's. And because of all the (stat) stuff, except for 'TES III Morrowind ' some times, (which I love just for the GRANDEUR/ADVENTURE) of it all! (That's also how I got started in PCgaming about five years ago with 'MYST'). It seems (to me) so overwhelming at times to keep your minds/eye on all the stats, to say nothing of the weapons/armor... when I just wont to enjoy (playing through) the game. Many have/do say that it gets easier as one plays the game. Anyway I just can't seem to get past the begining of 'Taris', and or through the 'UnderCity' map/part of the game.
Any buddy out there in 'KOTOR' land have any suggestions on how to, for us newies to RPG's that is, (GET-STARTED/KEEP-INERESTED) enjoy (playing through) this GREAT LOOKING RPG? e.g. amoung other things if you please, the auto leveling up system. I understand one can make it so that your main char. automatically levels up so you don't have to click on them to do it. Is that so? And if so how? And or anything alse you all have in mind? Thanks so very much in advance for your kind replies!! Obi/Jonathan _________________ 'What Is Popular Isn't Always Right, What Is Right Isn't Always Popular'!! |

Sorry I missed this, but I was out of the country and not connected to the net.
What kind of character are you playing, and how are you having difficulty? Is the combat too tough, or are you just not able to advance the story line? WHere are you in the game (still in the undercity?), and what level is your character? _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

To turn on the auto level up, go under Options in the main menu. Then select Gameplay. You'll find the option there. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

Arg!! I missed the auto level question. Thanks Val.
However, I have never really been pleased with the 'recommended' allocations in KotOR 2 ... I can't recall if they have them in KotOR 1 or not. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

It does. I ignored it. I prefer to build my own character. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

So do I. Last game there were a couple of instances where I just couldn't decide what feat to select (main and party characters) so I figured I'd try out the 'recommend' button. The silly 'recommend' button seemed fixated on sniper shot. Yeah. Now there's a skill all my guys just can't live with out. It has it's place I suppose (HK comes to mind) but mostly I prefer to go the rapid shot route - for those few instances where I actually have a ranged weapon user. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

Please Help! On (starting/completing) 'kotor' Part 2 |
|
Hello Llinta and Val:
First: of all thanks big-time for your replies, I though no one was playing 'KOTOR' any more or just didn't care.
Second: I hope this is the right place to respond to your replies of my original threat, I'm for the most part new to forums.
Linta: As with the other (three times) I've tried to (start & complet) this great looking RPG. I'll be playing a (Soldier). I'd just gotten out of the elevator into the UnderCity. And no the combat isn't too hard.
Val: Thanks for the leveling up info.
In short (I hope). As stayed, I've been for about five years now playing Adventures PC games starting with ('MYST') and three or four FPS e.g. Half-Life (the classic). So with the RPG I guess (to me anyway) seems so hard/confusinig keeping track of all the stats/weapons/armor and the like. So yes it does (again for me) seem hard. Mybe the way I asked the question was wrong. I just want to (enjoy playing through) it! Is there a way to play this or any other RPG for that matter, without getting bored or loose inerest as I think I did? And any advice/suggestion for playing 'KOTOR'? Again thanks in advance for your kind replies. Obi/Jonathn _________________ 'What Is Popular Isn't Always Right, What Is Right Isn't Always Popular'!! |

What causes you to become bored with the game? Do you get stuck or is it something else? _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

Thanks Val for the reply! I just get bored because of all the stats/feats you know all the things to keep one's minds/eye on. Again I'm new to RPG's and some do say after you've played RPG's a while it will get easier. I really do hope so because I'd like to play this great looking game!! Again thanks! _________________ 'What Is Popular Isn't Always Right, What Is Right Isn't Always Popular'!! |

You probably lack the RPG-experience to see it yet, but KotOR has a relatively low difficulty level. Especially the combat is easy, apart from a few boss fights. The game is pretty tolerant to mistakes in character development.
The one thing you should remember - also in every other RPG:
RPGs are about specialization! Decide in what direction you want to develop your character and then concentrate on these aspects. Specialization leads to strong characters, spreading skill points evenly among the stats inevitably leads to a weak character.
In case of KotOR this means every party member should concentrate on his main features and maybe some secondary skill you may need later, like 'disarm trap' or whatever. Over the whole party the priorities even out. Then you have a specialist for every required task.
Here´s a link to a walkthrough. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

One thing to remember about RPGs, there are generally three directions you can take your character in when developing them: fighter, thief/sneaky type, magic/force user. You should decide what type you like playing best. If you want simple and straight-forward, then go with a fighter. The choices for improving your character are generally easy. Thief/sneaky types are usually very skill based but are fun to play since you can sometimes see more things in a game than with other character types. That type of character is great for people who are curious. Magic/force users tend to be the hardest, because the choices are varied for how you can improve such a character. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!
