anybody know anything about this game? a release date or what engine it will run on, or anything like that. I'm about to play the first 2 and I wanted to know what the third one will be like.

Hey Gish, I'm pretty sure it's a long way away. It'll be after Deus Ex 2, which I don't expect before spring.

BTW, do you realize your lovely green type is waaay hard to read against the dark blue? My eyes hurt!

The Thief 3 official website still in "coming soon" state; hopefully it would not take forever to "coming soon". I already have enough with Duke Nukem Forever with their now i think infamous lines "When it is done...," what kind of PR is that?. I heard developer team for Thief 3 really or very eager to talk about the game but someone higher up didn't allow it, and that's couple months ago.

For people who can't wait for Thief 3, check up Spliter Cell. From previews (at gamespot) it looks like very similar to Thief series in their gameplay, and also use the Unreal engine (enhanced & latest version), and commented it as "...purest stealth game since Looking Glass' Thief series...".

Edited.

I've played the other Thief games...
They're cool, but they didn't last long, cos my pre-previous computer broke down back then...

Hope Thief 3 has differences because Thief 1 and 2 were exactly the same not even the graphic changes.

Thief I and II were different as they got rid of most of the stuff Thief I players had complained about.
Thief III will be different for sure because they won't use the Dark Engine for sure...

Gothic, I could hardly (respectfully) disagree with you more. Thief II is the best example of a changed sequel that I've ever played. The studio listened to everything that everyone complained about in the first game and fixed it -- mainly the proliferation of undead sequences and the needlessly action-packed finale. Thief II is a MUCH more pure "thief" experience, and much more plot-driven.

From what I've read about Deus Ex 2, which will be suing essentially the same engine as Thief 3, the game should be really good.

They have a great lighting and physics-modelling engine. While sneaking around, you can accidentally bump into a barrel or shelf, knocking things over. The guards hear you, but you quickly dive into a dark spot, shaded by some obstacles.

I'm really looking forward to both of them, if I manage to get my hands on them simultaneously, I might go into a shock from too much pleasure.

NOLF 2 already implemented those features. Of course, it is not full-blown role-player game.

In the demo, the guards had no problem spotting me while crouched and hidden in the deepest shadows (with the little blue-purple eye) I could find. And the damn taser was too loud.

Good demo though.

I've also read that if you stand in front of a lightsource the guards will be able to see your shadow and thus be alerted to your presence. Apparently, guards won't zero in on you like they did in Thief 1/2; they will run search patterns to try to find you (the Dark Engine "helped" the guards find you, but not in the new engine).

Yep Dark engines are no good for me. I don't like games with dark engine.

So you didn't like Thief, Thief II and System Shock II?
