Beware Kvatch

Beware Kvatch; I've had more CTD's or Complete feezes (requiring me to turn my computer off to restart) in one evening than in years of gaming!! At one stage I was stuck in the chapel and everytime I tried to exit I got a CTD. In the middle of most fights there I get a system hang!! This is a major buggy area that needs to be addressed in a patch immediately!! The only way to clear the problem was a total shutdown and reboot!! I have 2 Gig of RAM and a 7800GTX what's up here!!

Strange, I didn't have single problem and I'm already done with Kvatch. I would say that the game is rock stable for me (so far).

Are you playing on a PC, or 360?

I finished Kvatch and had no crashes. I'm using an ATI X800 XT. Maybe the crashes you have are driver related.

I have had some random crashes to desktop (I think about 3 since I started playing on the day it was released. I also sometimes get an error message when quitting the game, basically after I get back to the desktop, I get a Windows error message saying somethime like 'Oblivion has encountered a problem and needs to be closed', so it's like the Oblivion.exe can't fully close itself for some reason.

I have a brand new CPU, motherboard and video card (7800GTX) with all the latest drivers available installed. I also have 2 gig of dual channeled RAM

BTW, I'm running clean install (by that I mean no mods, not ini's modifications). If you are using any mods (any? - I guess you are using at least BTMod), I would suggest removing them (or even reinstalling Oblivion and not using them). Just an idea.

I was wondering that myself, as my problems began after I started to use a few of the highly recommended mods, like BT. Problem is, they are so useful!!

Yes, problem is that for example BTMod modifies quite significantly whole UI. I understand that this may cause issues.

If you decide to give it another try with clean install, let us know if it fixed your issues.

Just out of interest, I had exactly the same experience - right down to being stuck in the Chapel.

I can't honestly remember if I had the BTMod installed at that point...what I found exacerbated it was using a bow - when I gave up on that and used a sword (not that the bow was much use anyway with multiple mobs), it was better.

No BT mod, no issues in Kvatch at all. I have had two random CTDs in two weeks, but that's about my average in every other game as well.

I find the 'official' forums unusable, so unless someone here knows something, we'll just have to assume it's mod related!! Don't want to do a clean install unless I REALLY have to, so I'll soldier on and see what happens!!

Brave corwin. You will have to fight not only those ugly goblins and rats but also CTD's :].

Danicek, what character do you have, stealth, combat or magic???
-Apparently combat is easiest, then magic, then stealth.

Bashed my way into Kravach castle last night with my level 5 Argonian (combat mage) I found snowball to be a lot of help whilst throwing around my silver warhammer.
Felt like someone had upped the tempo of the nasties a bit compared to the Oblivion gate...
