Dungeon Lords: Development Update

Following our interview with D.W. Bradley recently (<a href="http://www.rpgdot.com/index.php?hsaction=10077&newsid=33322" target="_blank">story</a>) I contacted Dreamcatcher and asked for more details on the development status, demo and open beta. On a release date Dreamcatcher said "we're on time, but I do know that the guys are working hard on this, and like David said, we won't rush it out and skip on the quality".
<br>
<br>It looks like the demo will have to wait until after the game ships ("we originally announced the demo a couple of months back, but later decided to hold on it - we obviously want it to be representative of final code, so we'll get it done likely after ship") and the open beta appears to have been completed on a small scale ("we're working with the feedback to implement it into the game").
<br>
<br>We'll try to keep you updated and thanks to Dreamcatcher for the response.

It doesn't bode well that they are delaying the demo until after the game ships, and the beta testing appears to have been very limited in both time and scope. For a deep action/rpg with 8 races and 33 class specializations, I would think they would need all the beta testers they can get. And I have to admit that I'm somewhat surprised that I wasn't chosen for the beta test given my qualifications. But, then I hear Derek Smart wasn't chosen either

Everyone's always surprised they aren't picked for a beta given their qualifications.

Anyway, without a demo this game isn't even on my radar. I'd presume that holds true for most people. Unless they're trying to hide a crappy game, I'd suggest they get the demo out before the game ships or they won't be selling many.

Why? Doom 3 didn't have a demo until after release. Kotor never had one at all. Why won't the game sell without a demo? Thats a crazy statement, seeing as how it is also coming out on console for people to rent.

I can't see how a demo coming out after release will hurt sales. Look how demos before release have hurt games like Beyond Div.

Hell, I would have probably bought DD and BD if it wasn't for the demo reminding me I don't like diablo combat games.

I plan to buy or rent DL, and a demo might remind me I can't stand twitch games.

And a demo will also fill their forums with drama queens and idiots telling the devs how much they suck and won't buy the game.
