Don't you think it would be cool if Gothic 2 had a dwarf and an elve camp? I'm not saying for the game to be like Baldurs Gate with those shitty D&D rules. I love the game Gothic just the way it is, but I thought it would be awesome if they had dwarfs and elves in the game. I just finished watching Lord Of The Rings, which by the way is the best movie ever made, and I really liked that whole different race thing. Anyone agree? |

Yes..I would be nice with Elves and Dwarfs..BUT i dont think it will fit nicely into the Gothic world.
We are kind of use to Orcs and Humans..or what..
But look closely and you see some of the Balls in the SC is having pointed ears..hehe |

I take it you mean the Baals ... but it's not just them with the pointy ears. Just approach people from the side and you'll see that quite a lot of them either had parents who got laid by an elf... or else the modeler ran out of polys somewhere along the way ... |

Not all fantasy books/movies/video games need to have elves and such. Expecially in books, people tend to get so rapped up in having other races that they tend to let it take away from the story. If Gothic had elves it would have taken at least a chapter or two away from other quests to try to explain why and how they are there. I agree that Lord of the Rings was a fantastic story, and the movie had unbelieveable FX and scenery, however I'm sick of elves. Elves are bad for the genre. Most people think of elves as kid's stuff so they think of fantasy as kid's stuff as well. While some is, many fantasy stories are far to mature for little un's. And despite it's lack of elvi Gothic is just as much fantasy as Lord of the Rings.
In case you are wondering why I'm getting so angry at the elves; I'm writing a fantasy novel, and I am convinced that that is what I'm going to be doing for the rest of my life. But it annoys me that every time I tell people I'm writing a fantasy novel they ask, 'Oh, you mean like elves and stuff?'. |

I don't care much for elves but dwarfs are friggin awesome. I would love to run into a dwarf in Gothic 2. I believe it would make the game so much more interesting. There doesn't really have to be any background on them in the game. You ever play StoneKeep? They had dwarfs and elves in the game and explained nothing about them, they were just there. And as strange as this maybe, it made the game more fun to play. I loved the dwarfs voices and there negative attitudes in the game. I just feel that Gothic, with the kind of game it is, needs more then just humans(bore) and Orcs. |

As for the elvish looking folks in game:
The devs have a special thank you to J.R.R. Tolkien (the author of the LOTR trilogy) in the closing credits..I think they must have enjoyed his work..perhaps they pointed those ears for a reason, huh??

Actually, spelling the plural of 'Dwarf' 'Dwarves' is an eccentricity given to us by Tolkien. Both are considered equally correct now, I think, according to merriamwebster.com

I know I've read somewhere that dwarfs can be used instead of dwarves if desired. Also in the game Stonekeep, they often refer the dwarven releam as the dwarfs releam. Anyways, who gives a rats ass. |

Actually, he misspelled dammit, as well.. because the 2 words are "damn" and "it"... not to be confused with his spelling, 'damm' and 'it'...
Just wanted to clarify..
