Stuck at Secret Passage! (spoiler)

I've got both Rings and I need to get back to the Temple of Akbaa. I've tried entering through the Tavern but the patrolling Ylside kicks my butt every time. So, I'm now stood at the entrance to the secret passage but I can't remove the portcullis blocking my way and the button pressure plate in the wall doesn't work.

Can somebody tell me where I'm going wrong here?

The first time you went in to destroy the meteor, did you exit the dungeon via that button to the goblin prison? It has to be activated (the first time) from the inside..... If you have, then I don't have a clue why it's not working.

Yes, I did activate it the 1st time <sigh>

I guess my next option is to go through the Tavern using lots and lots of invisibility potions.
