The ship
   

so, beginner here. be gentle...

my problem is i can't get on to the wrecked ship in the first town. i've been told i am supposed to but i can't. there is rope all around the dock. someone please clue me in...

The ship (on water) isn't the one you want, since you can't get to it. The ship Myles wants you to visit is the crashed spaceship a couple blocks over.
