Great Gothic-like games to play to pass time!

Okay, I am fairly sure the thing going through all our minds is, "What am I supposed to play until Gothic 2 is released?" Well, maybe not all your minds. Its sure as hell going through mine!

Could anyone make some recommendations? What are the best NEW games out there that we can play while we await the release of Gothic 2?!

Nevermind links to sites that provide ratings and reviews! What are your opinions for the best recently released games?

The same thing has been going through my mind as well.

For the next 18 days, I'll learn how to make knives and learn a little german.
I plan to order German Gothic2 overnight on Nov29th, so I'll need to learn German.

If I do play games, it'll probably be old stuff like GTA3, Hitman2 and Gothic.

You can always try Lord of the rings: the fellowship of the ring. Or one of the 2003 EA Sport games.

Or you can do what half the German Gothic community did:
Play Arx Fatalis.

Here are some games that fans of gothic (such as I) surely fill find adequate:
(listed according to my own rating)

    Sacrifice
    Zanzarah
    Dragon riders: chronicles of Pern

And, as proposed, Arx Fatalis.

good luck

You could play Morrowind...it's so big, you could hold out 'till Gothic 3 arrives! Just think of all the herbs you can collect, what fun!

IMO Morrowind is one of the most boring and "empty" games ever released.

It may be big but almost all dungeons look alike and all the quests are insanely easy. The enemies are either tooooooo weak or too strong.

I think you're better off with arx get arx

You could allways try MMORPG's, that would suck up your time fast and they are pretty realistic.

Or, if you are as young as me, WORRY ABOUT SCHOOL!

There is also otehr things you could do, like start to train and run. That would suck up your time.

But if you want a game like Gothic, I think you have to search the MMORPG world.

I will definately go buy the Arx game you have recommended.

Lord of the Rings seems to be highly advertised. Could I get some personal opinions on that recommendation?

One personal thing I'd like to note: for me there is nothing more dissapointing than a game that has unobvious dead ends in it. I don't want to criticize any games here. I'll provide an example as thoroughly as possible without doing so directly...
I logged in at least 115 hours in one game recently. I was searching for a specific NPC to complete a certain quest and ended up getting attacked. My reaction was of course to kill the thing attacking me, so I did. Two days later I discovered that by killing that mob I prevented myself from being able to complete the game. Imagine my frustration... I later found out that the only hint or warning regarding this was to speak with a friendly NPC just outside the entrance. He would have told me not to kill the mobs inside. Realistically in this example, it is impossible to concentrate on 1,000 quests at once. Basically I didn't talk to the NPC because I was focusing on solving the quest at hand, and assumed the game I was playing was designed with enough sense not to condemn a roadless traveler like myself, for merely defending himself. Needless to say I had no saved games I could go back to. I had made a habit of saving once per hour at least. Over the course of the two days that went by, I had already saved over all 6 game slots.

If anyone wants a recommendation from me, I would suggest Medal of Honor. The game itself is nothing like Gothic, but it was a blast to play. The multiplayer addition on gamespy is even funner! As long as you have a fast connection speed, you'll love the multiplayer addition. For me, Medal of Honor is the perfect game-type for multiplayer additions. (Of course its not nearly as good as Gothic )

This may be a bit off subject. I noticed a lot of new MMORPG's being released. I just have two questions regarding this:

Do all MMORPG's require you to pay a monthly fee, like Everquest does?

If you have a MMORPG to recommend, which one would it be?

(I played Everquest for about 6 years. I stopped playing it about 1 year ago. I was overwhelmingly frustrated at the fact that the game is designed so its nearly impossible for you to solo after a certain level. In EQ for example, even as a Wizard, from level 40 to 60 its almost impossible to find good mobs to kill alone. The game not only encourages, but requires you to group with other players in order to kill mobs at mid to high levels. Everquest is a really great game, it just has that one aspect I personally can't extract any enjoyment from.)

I didnīt recommend Arx, I only told you that many German Gothic players bought Arx (and liked it). Although itīs more like Ultima Underworld than Gothic.
