I've not heard either, but presumably the engine was upscalable. We already know it was a fast engine (on a well balanced system) so if it ain't broken why fix it? Just ramp up the poly counts, increase the game world, and save yourself years of development time too.

Edit: oh and dungeon siege does load (to address a different post) - it's loads on the fly everytime you move. If you've got a slow hard drive like me, then you can quite often notice it as you move accross a town for the first time.

GII is indeed using an upscaled G-engine.
Which makes those low-end comp-users intimidated to buy or upgrade theirs...and thats exactly what I'd do.
