Lockpicking Problem

In the Orc cave near the North Gate there is a chest. When I first tried to open the chest I was informed that I did not have the lockpicking skill. I obtained the lockingpicking skill (and bought lockpicks). When I attempt to open the chest now my character bends down to open the chest and then freezes. The chest never opens, and I recieve no messages. The only way I have found to regain control over the character is to use the space bar (draw a weapon). Does anyone know of a solution to my problem? (Note: The same think problem occurs with the chest in the bandit cave past the black globins out of the east gate)

Thanks in advance.

When you bend over, you have to conduct the lockpicking yourself. It doesn't lockpick a chest automatically. To lockpick, press the left or right cursor. When you make the right choice, you'll hear a click. If you make the wrong choice, either your lockpick will brake or you'll have to start over.

Lockpicks break often if you're low on dexterity.
