Developer thread: "Differences between Gothic I and II& |
|
hi folks, we developers from piranha bytes will turn up regularly in the forum for the next days, especially in this thread. This way we would like to give you the chance to communicate with us and to ask some questions. You're invited to discuss Gothic II with us, we'll suggest a topic for the first time round though. If you like it, we will repeat it with some other topics. This thread shall be mainly about the following topic:
which are the main differences between Gothic I and Gothic II?
So, the thread is declared open. At some point next week we will retire from here to be able to focus on the development of Gothic II.
Some further requests to you:
- Please ask only one or two questions, a post with 10 or 20 questions will not give other people the chance to ask questions themselves.
- Please stick to the topic.
- Please don't be upset if you have to wait a while for the answers. After all we are still developing the game in the meantime
have fun,

I have a Geforce 2 Ti 64MB DDR graphics card, since I have heard gothic 2 is based on the GF3, will i have to upgrade to play gothic? or will the GF2 work? I know the graphics will be poorer if it does work, but will i have to miss out alot? |

@irf:
i've got some good news for you: the engine is not based on GF3. you can expect a good performance (provided that you have enough RAM), since we don't use any GF3-only pixel shaders or whatever.
sometimes problems occur on GF2 MX cards, but as far as your graphic card is concerned, don't worry. you won't have to miss any features. regardless whether you use a high-end graphic card, you might have to reduce the range of view or the model details, depending on your system (processor, RAM, drivers, etc.) _________________ "just two more minutes!"

Will there be female NPCs who play a role in the storyline? Or more generally, will female NPCs play a different role in GII than they did in GI? _________________ Jaz |

@jaz:
generally speaking, women in gothic II can do everything that was left to men in gothic I. of course you can talk to them, and there are some female "leading roles". since the colony (which was originally a men's world) is a thing of the past, you'll meet a lot of women, mainly in the city.
@gothic7:
gorn? yes. you'll be able to meet the four friends (diego, gorn, lester, milten), but not all of them are intertwined in the main plot. you CAN meet them.
lee? i don't know if he successfully escaped the colony. rumours say that he got caught, but who knows... _________________ "just two more minutes!"

Will the Gothic 2 game world be basicly on one large map like Gothic 1 and Dungeon Siege, or like Neverwinter Nights with each area having it's own map. _________________ PUBLIC NOTICE AS REQUIRED BY LAW: Any Use of This Product, in Any Manner Whatsoever, Will Increase the Amount of Disorder in the Universe.

There are at least two worlds.
The smaller one is the old (different looking) world from Gothic I =)

Will there be 'real' arena fights (or other fights you can bet on) in GII?
As the local forums' fight promoter this is a question naturally concerning me . _________________ Jaz |

Very shocked to see that .sig from a PB person....about as shocking as Jaz asking about fights.... (I do agree with whoever wrote it though,Gothic was so much more a living world)
Will the world/feeling/atmosphere of Gothic2 be similar to Gothic...?
I mean,not a cheerful,elves happy world but a bit more down and dirty....semi-hopeless...? |

One of the great things about GothicI (frustrating things about Morrowind) is how the world and NPCs change and react to your character and events in the game. Will the world of G2 be more alive than G1, and in what ways? Will the NPC have more elaborate scripts and AI? _________________ "You two are a regular ol' Three Musketeers." |
