Is a warrior any good?

I've chosen to have a fighter/warrior character because, in most games, they are easier to play then wizards. Is this game an exception? I do not seem to be very strong in the game. Is a spellcaster stronger than a fighter?

I'm just at the beginning, but so far for me, magic system in this game is really awesome (and I normally prefer warrior-type characters).

No idea if wizards are stronger than warriors, tough.

It seems easyer for magic users... Fireball speel gets incredebly strong... Course that isn't exatly very obvious when you start the game...

Don't worry about the warrior type - it is stong enuf to go through the game w/o much problems. There gonna be 2 or 3 time when you will meet a definitely touch opposition, but combat with them can usually be evoided (learn secret passages, teleportations) or escaped (run ), and that's OK since you will get them anyway but later when your character is tough. Just remember to specialise in few skiles (Arx is somewhat short on XP poins). BTW, do not invest too much or at all into the Projectile skill: there are only two bows (a plain one and an easter eggs one) that require 40 of that skill.

Actually, I've dual-classed! 2 levels into fighting and 2 into spellcraft - the rest will also go into spellcraft

i disagree with the bow skill

investing points in projectile does have merit. with 53 in projectile i dont have to be as close to my mark to hit. equally, i think the fireballs are more widespread with high projectile.

I've gotten quite strong after investing in Magic. I'll just stick to that! I can wear heavy armor anyway and am a decent spellcaster. Seems like a good combination!

I've just finished the game as a warrior w00h00. Just stick all your skill points in attack, defence & object knowledge. I had no use for any of the other skills.

Magic and Conventional Weapons. What about Etheral Link?

Unless I run out of mana, I never use my weapons. Fireball is powerful enough to kill almost all my opponents with one shot and from very long range. Additionally, I enjoy watching the ball of flame fly to the unsuspecting victim then watching the large explosion throw the victim into the air! With conventional weapons the battles last a few minutes and in some cases I almost die or at the very least use all my health potions.

I know the online guide says Etheral Link is a waste of points, but has anybody tried it? Does it really tell you how much life you opponent has left?
That is another reason I use magic. When fighting with conventional weapons I can't tell if I am close to killing me enemy. If the enemy does not die after 12 double damage hits I begin to worry and run. I never really know if all it would take to kill the opponent is one more hit or several more hits. Whereas one fireball kills every enemy I have come across with the exception of the demon. I have not advanced beyond map level 5.

I prefer a little more tricky way than simple fireball:
wall of fire and force field. Enemies are not smart enough to go outside of the fire. But true - fireball is the fastest way to kill.

Anyway there're many nice spells in this game. Good work Arkane

I think this is one of the best thief games ever, get a bunch of stealth and you can totally roll the king himself.

Many rooms are inaccessable to all classes except thief, due to the fact that you must pickpocket that rooms owner first.

Actually most rooms are accessible with a ~70ish object knowledge and a good enough dexterity (and sometimes bless ). What's good about 70 is that you can also make your own invisible potions and enchant most items (though I'm not even sure that all worked out since I was using 1.15 and didn't even notice items were enchanted...). Anyway, I entered every room without pickpockting anyone by those means, well, exept the doors to exit the realm, but I think you need to kill the king to get that key anyhow.

@sunshine: I think that stealing is way too easy in Arx: there is barely a challenge, exept for stealing Krahoz from the rebels, and maybe pickpocketing zombies and such.
@Red: isn't it mechanical skill that is responsible for lockpicking doors and chests?
