Gothic 3 Controls Revamped? Mouse Based? Please Clarify...

When I read the combat would be "controllable entirely via the mouse" I couldnt believe it. Can someone clarify what they are doing? The only thing I had hoped for was a shield...but I could already parry so even that wasnt a big deal - I use a two hander anyway.

Way too many games have oversimplified combat interfaces making them effectively "spectator" or auto attack. That's why I don't play MMO's. Someone please tell me Gothic 3 isnt going to be like that....

I read that the good old controls from the previous games will most probably be in Gothic 3 as an option for us old timers but the new simplified method is there by default for the new players.

hmm.....If you played WoW you realised that the control (& combat) system is not so bad.But Gothic 3 is definitely a single player RPG & (at least for Gothic 3) it needs no control changes (maybe for combat a little).

I wouldnt argue that Gothic 1/2 left no place for improvement - but the thought of all mouse doesnt sound so hot.

That being said - I have no details around what they intend. Anyone have an idea? And I've seen WOW vids and I was definately not impressed. Most MMO's I've seen - everyone standing there slugging it out occasionally changing combos but basically standing there.

Bad video link, Nemo.

Also, I truly hope we'll get an "old controls" option again too - I'd be sad otherwise, even if that's so only because I resist any sort of change.

G1&2 combat sys would have been perfect to me if there would have been more different moves. All the same animations over and over got boring.

I think he's just saying he can't get to the video - bad URL. I can't tell because my workplace has blocked it.

PB said they are going to make the controls more accessible for new players. More mouse implemented, like drag and drop in the inventory. We'll know the controls when a demo is released until then it's wait and see.
