After collecting all the books I went back to the tower. I looked around in there for nearly four hours and finally managed to locate the entrance to a small tunnel. The tunnel opened up in a large hall where an old man stood reading from one of those large tomes. He was the man who had written all the books. He had an interesting story to tell which involved embarking up[on a side quest. If you manage to solve the quest, you will receive a major bonus in skill points and a couple of cool runes and scrolls. Including one that can turn you into a demon lord. |

Well that was quite humorous, albeit a little childish. You juvenile snide remarks have no basis other than the fact that no body you know has so far been able to solve the chromanin puzzle. |

Why don't you show us a screenshot? If you have really achieved what you you are talking about, then you should share it... |

Well now, i a very curious and i'll tell you why,
The first time i played Gothic (a long time ago - the first week it came out),
i can definately remember coming to contact with an old man in a room high upon the cliffs overlooking the sea. To this day i have never been able to repeat that incident, going off memory, he did give me a quest.
I would endorse what wolverine_men says but i would love to have more info'
about this, surely some other players have encountered this old man? _________________ Forever aches my wretched soul, for Chromanin locked in that dark hole, though crypted key i've yet to learn, he knows one day i will return. |

Maybe you dreamt it, Wolf. No, seriously, I'm not pulling your leg... At the time I first played Gothic, I was so into the story and all that I actually dreamt about it on several occasions, though my dreams had nothing to do with the actual in-game development... |

Interesting. I would also like to see a screenshot. At least one with the entrance to the tunnel. If both of you found it once it shouldn´t take another 4 hours to find it again. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Gorath is correct,
Its no good "beating about the bush" - - I will make it my "priority mission"
to find, and screenshots if i (or any others) get that far.
P.S. I think this quest can only be "enabled" with certain/particular flags to trigger it. _________________ Forever aches my wretched soul, for Chromanin locked in that dark hole, though crypted key i've yet to learn, he knows one day i will return. |

Well I remember how I turned gothic upside down. I played with all 3 camps and researched every tiny spot of the terrain. And I'm pretty sure a quest such as this doesn't exist. _________________ Team wins a war, not an individual. |

I did finish the Chromanin quest. There was a dead man in the tunnels below the tower, EACH and EVERY time, he had half-finished book on him and the quest in the journal also went under "Finished Quests" area and wrote that "Whatever that man wanted, he didn't manage to do as he was killed" or something to that extent.
So if you claim that there is different ending to it, write here what G1 version you have, which language version, and show a screenshot. Until that, I will think that you're just trying to pull our legs here |

Looks like you've all got some homework to do,
I have walked with "the corpse" i have seen the old man "the wise one" - -
"the riddler" read the books, the clues are there.
It seems, that you only get one stab at this strange situation, and only if you stay on the "path of the righteous" and only if you get the right sequence, this cromanin thing has been "missed" by the vast majority of Gothic players, it is not for the hack-n-slash player, it requires some "thought".
I think it would be helpful if wolverine_men was to "expand" on this as i only got that far once, and then, only for a short time. _________________ Forever aches my wretched soul, for Chromanin locked in that dark hole, though crypted key i've yet to learn, he knows one day i will return. |
