I must say that I find the new content from the GC a little disappointing. I would have thought to see more of for example the new level system with special moves or the new fighting system.

Of course I'm amazed by the new graphics engine and judging from the movies from the pre-alpha it's going to look amazing, but I was hoping to see more than just graphics.

I trust PB, so when KaiRo says they're are still aiming for January 2006, and that it's a realistic goal, then I believe. Without his confidence I would have never believed that it would be even near a release that date, because it certainly doesn't look that way.

Good to hear about shields.

As for helmets, I mean more in pieces/style.

I played as a merc. in g2 , woulda been nice to had a helmet for a while.

As far as Zweihander, I meant a sword like a zweihander , with a long slender 6' blade and a high cross guard above the hand guard.

just for the info zwei means two and zweihander is 2hander[/quote]

Indeed, like there were already tons of in G1 and G2. It's no new weapon type.

Zweihander is not the name of a sword, it simply means "Two handed sword" in German(or "twohander" directly translated). And there were tons of two handed swords in G1-2. URIZIEL, the sword needed to complete G1 is an example. I know the kind of weapon you mean, but they are not named Zweihander afaik, that's just the German word for it. And no, there were no such swords(with a cross on it) in G1-2.

The zweihander on the picture is just an example I believe, and it's design(although classical) was not locked down to that shape alone. I don't think the cross for instance is necessary to call the sword a zweihander(I'm no expert on German weaponry, but I do believe all two-handed swords with the right length was being called zweihanders in the 16th century in Germany).

I might be wrong though, as I haven't studied it.

A Zweihänder is any two-handed sword of ~140+ cm length (roughly 55" - you absolutely need both hands to swing a sword this size). IIRC Zweihänder were rarely used in combat, though, since they were far too impractical.

A zweihander IS the name of a type of sword, just like a claymore, an estoc, etc. Just over time certain things on it might have changed (like the crossguard).

They were mainly used against pikes and such by landsknecht (Doppelsoeldner).

While the Estoc (the precursor of the Rapier) is an Einhänder, or one-handed sword, the Claymore (Scottish two-handed sword) is a Zweihänder... just like Maylander said, Zweihänder is just the German word for two-handed sword. Even though (in Germany) the word in itself just designates a type, or class, of swords in general regardless of their origin, it's largely used as the designator for a type of medieval two-handed sword from Germany. It's safe to assume that , well, had a medieval Scotsman imported a Claymore into medieval Germany, medieval Germans would have called it Zweihänder (or Bidenhänder),

so then, what was the name of said sword that I posted?

That was used mostly in the 16th century by the landsknecht against pikes and such...

So you're telling me that every two handed sword was used against pike formations and any soldier trained to use one was double paid?

I think that even though the name means "two hander" that it's still referring to a specific sword. Of all the info I can find on "Zweihanders" they all talk about it as though it's a very specific type of sword and not just a "Broad term" for a wide range of swords IE - long sword, etc.

In G2 an ice-block spell may just "go through" the body of an orc elite and do not block him at all...

I suppose that is because there is only a small area at the center of a body model that can be "hit" by sword, arrow, and magic. This would be too "simple" an aiming model in G3... In HL2 you can shoot the legs of other people, and how about G3?

But it is a very specific sword, one that is wielding with two hands instead of one. In appearance there are many differences.

Nearly all modern games future correct hit areas. I'm sure that in G3 you will be able to cut limbs and arms like in the movie "Monty Python and the holy grail" hehehe
