Being in-sector with your automatic transports is dangerous regardless. Out of sector collisions aren't checked for... everything is a nice, neat mathemetical formula. While in sector your transports are in danger of being run over by NPC destroyers, careening into asteroids, or being cut off by emerging traffic and slamming into the edge of the jump gate and detonating nicely... or just flat out getting killed coming out of the sucidial Argon and Boron trading stations.
Insurance is salvage insurance... use it often.
