Am I farked?

Meh. I've been playing through Gothic II as an archer. Mostly everythings worked fine for me. But now I'm in chapter four, with ~74 dex, 20 str, marksman with crossbows, and I have a few trains in bows, and then trained once 1h and 2h weapons.

So I go off to hunt dragons. First place I stumble across is where the New Camp was. I go to kill the ice golems... I can barely hurt them. (Using the best crossbow I could buy from the castle, can't remember the name offhand)

I go back and hire some dragon-hunter to come with me. He doesn't seem to be alot stronger than me, but with his sword he can do a substantial amount of damage. Are archers totally useless? I'd imagine if it was true, I could try and switch over to be more heavily leaning towards swords. (I think I have like 40 LP's collected, since levelings a piece of cake now and I can't find anyone who trains dex in the valley)

Golems are easy to kill with a weapon. They swing slower than orcs, so you just need to swing before they swing. You can kill golems without even getting hit a single time with good timing. In my current game I'm also an archer. I am level 16 in level 1. The only thing I use my melee for is the golems. Strong NPCs can be defeated by making them chase you to a high area where they can't climb. You just shoot away until their health is very low, then draw your sword and hit them once to knock them unconscious. You get the experience and the respect this way. It is more effective than relying mostly on a melee weapon. I think the game is actually more of a challenge if you don't use ranged weapons. I'm having a blast as an archer though!

The guy on L.... teaches you dex and str, but I think he helps you if you bring him back his sword, which he lost near Hos-Pak.

And I wouldn't be surprise if he would only teach Dragon Hunters... altough he might do different.

Being and archer is good, until you don't have to duell with someone... then it gets really anoying.

Feros will train STR and DEX

I can confirm that once you return Feros' sword, he will train both paladin and mercenary in STR and DEX up to 70%.
