I rather enjoy Affect Mind and Dominate Mind. Mission's comments every time you use it are hilarious!

Playing as a woman character and teasing Carth can be lots of fun too. Or going all evil and then insulting Bastila. Teasing, arguing, fighting... I really like the NPCs in this game.

Credits and Dark Side Points.

Yeah the NPC interactions in this game is really great though I find that the world itself is pretty restrictive/small. It doesn't gives me that sense of immenseness that those BG series does.

About the interface. What you guys said about its a hassle changing weapons and stuff..

well you have to remember that it's an RPG game and not a FPS shooter. I mean I guess theyre trying to give you that whole classic RPG gameplay. Such as final fantasy games, I mean u cant change weapons with a hit of a button. Remember, you had to go to menu and change weapons there or how ever they may do it(depends which game), but you cant just change weapons with one hit of a button. It's the whole RPG effect. I know it is a hassle going to menu and doing everything just to change weapons, but it's easy to get used to. I do it quite fast.

I actually like this game because of the gameplay and NPCs. Theyre really funny and have a lot to say. The graphics are really good on my pc because I have good graphic cards and I turned everything up without sacrificing game speed. I guess the creators focused more on what you get out of the game, all the hours you may spend talking to NPCS and doing quests rather than perfecting game interface. This game has won awards too. Not surprised. I guess whenever we see a game that gets lots of hype, we tend to criticize it rather than actually complimenting it.

Just my two cents.

I don't understand why a FPS should get a simple interface and an RPG doesn't...just because it's a RPG. A good interface should be an important design goal regardless of the genre. It doesn't bother me that there's no one-click button but there's a number of unnecessary clicks/scrolls that a drag and drop paper doll would have dispensed with.

All quibbles aside (interface and such) I absolutely loved this game... sorry to say it, but I enjoyed it much more than the Baldur's Gate series... IMO wayyy superior in the NPC department and the story is pretty darn tight, too. And seriously... how can you possibly complain about the graphics?!? Run at 1600x1200 with all effects - if your pc can handle it - it's a beaut.

Side note... With regards to blasters being useless... have you got a fully repaired Raging Bender with e.g. a Baragvin (or however it's spelled) Blaster? Getting to the Unknown World my li'l pal HK does 6-38 dam at 27 to-hit, has 36 AC without the unlimited use shield, and regenerates... works for me.

Only dissapointment for me was the fighting: turn-based and no skill on the Keyboard needed. Oh and one small thing too: You do not speak (<->Gothic: main character speaks as well.)

It's a good adventure. I feel it's simply too linear and restrictive to be called an RPG. And it's definitely overrated - a lot of simple, silly puzzles and quests, simple combat (exactly as Dhruin described).
Magnificent audio design though....

crazeejay629: The Final Fantasy games were developed for consoles, just like KOTOR. You won't find that sort of interface in many RPGs that are developed for computers simply because the mouse is a far more superior tool and the drag and drop paper doll interface is infinately more simple to use.

Bart, I don't play games that require 'skill with the keyboard'. Why? I don't have any. I'm not young and I don't have quick reflexes. I play games VERY slowly, so turn based suits me admirably. Horses for courses, if you want twitchy fingers, play shooters. When you're my age, you'll appreciate other options.

I'm in pretty close agreement with Cold_Brains. It's an interesting game, but far too restrictive. A lot of of the choices you supposedly have don't really exist. The only real free choice you have is to skip side-quests you don't want to do. In terms of the good/evil choice, you're basically choosing to be a Light Jedi or a petty goon. It's either Lawful Good or Chaotic Stupid for your alignment... the Dark Side solution to a quest is typically the Light Side solution, except at the end there's some dialogue option like "Now you die!" Dialogue is a major case where they try to trick you into thinking you have some choice, but half the time it doesn't matter what you say. That is, you're given five dialogue options, four of them produce the same response, and the fifth gets one short comment (like "Oh please" or something) before continuing on with the same response. Lightsaber duels were interesting to watch at first, but after a bit the combat gets very boring. Same interface complaints as others have voiced.

That said, if you're content with a purely linear plot progression, it is fairly interesting, and the NPC interactions were mostly good. I think it's the first entirely voice-acted games I've played where the voice-acting doesn't suck (I mute the sound in Gothic 1/2 when dialogue starts).

I don't find it so great as a computer RPG, but compared to the crap console RPGs around, it's just dandy. Better this than Final Fantasy and associated clones.

Val, I know that FF games were made for consoles, but my point was that they made the interface how it is because it serves as a classic rpg effect that many of us are used to. I mean it would be too easy if we could just change weapons with a hit of a button.

You know, if you dont like their interface, Im sure there are many mods out there that individuals created to ease the interface experience. Go download those. And Im sure there are many mods out there that makes the game a lot more challenging and interesting. check lucasfiles.com sometimes and see if someone has uploaded any. or just check plain ol' google.
im not sure if we can post weblinks here but here are some sites:

And Draconisrex, hotbar sucks.

Saying it has a "classic feel" is just an excuse for poor design.
