I read fentasy (mostly):
- Pratchet books
- Traxxass books
- LotR
- WoT
- and others, of course, like the Blizzard books on WarCraft, StarCraft & Diablo
But I also like mystery books (Agatha Cristy is my all-time favorite), sci-fy ( I like Dune ... the original is always the best, in this case - only the original!), classics (I like Don Quihote and some works of Alex. Dumah - the prediscesor of R. Jordan) and many others ... |

I read mostly fantasy books though I am not a big fan of scifis with a few exceptions. May favorite authors are:
-Raymond Fiest
-Mercedes Lackey
-Marion Zimmer Bradley
-Robin Hobb

They're available, but probably not widely distrubuted.
I read the usuals... Jordan, Martin, Moorecock, Tolkien, Salvatore, Hickman & Weis... (two of those things are not like the others) - fantasy mostly.
A whole lot of science fiction as well.
Above all else I have a love of pulp fiction. Things like the Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Shadowrun, Star Wars, etc.
I liked the legend of Gilgamesh, but very few other classics. I've been told that I didn't like Homer's work because I got a very poor translation by a friend of mine who is an english professor, and I tend to trust his judgement... so if anyone has a non-sleepy time translation I'll give it another shot.

EverythingXen, different translations of Homer's works make a big difference. Some of them are more poetic and less exact, yet because the translation style is poetic, it is supposed to mimic the cadences and feel of the original Greek. And others are more correct, yet more dry and boring. In those translations, the translator is not as interested in preserving the sound and feel of the original work, so much as preserving the precision of the translation. Personally, I like the more poetic translations--they stir the imagination and move the soul. I believe there's a translation by Byron (although it might be another poet) which was my favorite version.

Dry would be a good way to describe the version I read. As in... go to sleep after three pages dry.

I liked Homer's Iliad mainly because of the gore. Shocked me out of my socks when I read it for the first time all those years back, and thus created a lasting impression.

LE Modesitt (not terribly impressed with his sci-fi, though)

I'll be reading that later on in the year for Classical Civ. At the moment I'm reading Herodotus (Again, in classical civ) and Rainbow 6 voluntarily.
