Anti-Aliasing Questions

I was wondering if and what anti-aliasing settings are the best to run the game at?
My computer is relatively new, and I'm getting decent performance on all settings.
I really can't tell the difference in the settings when I change them and experiment with the results.
I have the 850X PE card, so I have to completely disable it due to the frame slowing during red effects and the beginning brotherhood attacks.
What exactly does the anti-aliasing do for me and are the benefits worth the performance reduction it can cause?
Sorry for seeming ignorant on this matter, but I'm not very familiar with this subject.

I'm assuming you meant x850XT PE? To see the effects of Anti Aliasing go to the capital city and view the architecture with it off and on. There you will see difference between smooth lines and jaggies. AA is basically like a DVD Players pixel adaptive progressive scan algorithm that reduces or eliminates interlaced errors (the "jaggies"). You'll see it in the cities architecture better than the great outdoors because of all the strait sharp lines.

I have an X850 XT OC'ed to PE specs (not very far). Be forewarned - 2xAA might cause severe slowdowns during combat. I had to ultimately disable it although I played about 6 hours that way. It works fine for the most part indoors where I was getting 70 frames per second. Combat outdoors however, would be hit or miss. And when I say "miss" I meant a total performance disaster. So try it first, but be aware it has a bigger cost than texture size. Much bigger.
