After helping the friendly Orc Shamman, I went below and got the potions and found two switches..they raise the two columns which will allow you to get back out.....is that all those two pillars do? It sure seemed anti-climactic to me.....

This is only a gimmick. The next quest will be more dangerous and earn you a few levels.
