Need help w/ Pirates of Caribbean...nowhere else to turn....

Since there's nowhere else on the net that caters to this game, thought I'd post here:

I'm still at the start of the game. Apart from the mission from the Governor as to sneaking into Oxbey, what else are u supposed to do at the start of the game?

I'm too weak to fight other ships. Are u simply supposed to accumalate wealth and build a better ship?

What other stuff is there to do ?

Anyone know where to find hints or a walkthrough for this game?

Help With Gold

I have 90000 gold and 2 Luggers now. I have acculated wealth in several ways.

1) Search all open houses for items. (Some places around the port entraces will respawn items)

2) Searched the dungeon in Greenford and found good sword, but must save often to defeat the sekeletons.

3) All shop owners usually have jobs and they range in pay from 100 - 4000 gp. Its random I think.

4) Tavern Keepers will also know people that you can escort for a good price too (1500 - 4000gp). Key is save before leaving port in case you are killed by pirates.

5) I wrote down all the selling and buying prices and found where best place to buy and sell items for profit.

6) Keep telling the officers that there price is too high and you can get them down to 200 gp per month.

7) Share drinks with the people in the bar, but be careful (I had 1 rob me of something but not sure what was taken) (One of them game me a mission to save his daughter and I got a better sword)

Drop off gold with your local LoanShark and earn 3% a month interest (Better than a CD)!

The key to this game is a little patience and lots of exploring. I have 5 officers and all have pistals and at least 4 in meele skill. They can last longer in fights now. They still like to run and get killed sometimes. I also recommend you make a little map of the islands, because there are only 7 I found so far. (somewhere I heard there is eight, but the other may be the one I see under the sea).

How big is this game - ie, how many hours would it take to play through all the proper quests?

It depends on the cargo capacity of your fleet. The wages for delivering goods for a merchant can skyrocket once you get larger ships. I have a Lugger and a Fleut with a total of about 3200 tons cargo space. I get offered jobs by merchants ranging from 9000 to 26000 gold! It's an absolute steal!

re: how long it will take?

I guess that will depend on how long you want to take. I have completed only a couple of the main quests, because Im spending alot of time exploring and building a fleet. There are side quests that you can find in taverns sometimes by drinking with the locals (I got the best sword so far in the game by doing this and saving a mans Daughter from a nasty pirate!)

I have got a question as well:

Is there a point in conquering a fort?(besides the massive exp and some gold of course) After i had conquered a fort the hole town changed into a ghost town and being the new ruler of a total empty island is rather boring.
