i playd, gothic as a militia and i couldn't find the cave where are the bandits that robbed hakon the merchant (a chpt. 1 quest) and a thought that was becose i already reached chpt. 2 .
So i  started a new game and i joined the mercenaries , now i'm still at chpt. 1 ,but i still can't find the cave.
this is one of the quest that must be done for joining the thieves guild. can anyone help me ?
i tryied a guide , it sayz : " when you reach the stair case to akil's farm there is a road right next to it , falow the road away from the farm and after a while turn left , you should see a cave opening,(the cave is soth of akil's farm)"
i'm still looking to find that cave  [/b]

it is easy to find, when you leave the city at the west gate, go right, then foloow the path till there is a stairway, go up the stairs and after that go to the left. follow the path a little bith, and then go left into the wild. you will see a cave with 3 thieves in front (or they are in the cave)

yeah , i falowed that path but i get near a skeleton and i can't kill it yet
he has two naded weapon and kills me after a few hits
i'm a mercenary and i have a prety poor armour 30 30 10 5 or somting like that
should i get near that skelethon or there is too far ?
