For the Barber riddle, the poor looking barber cuts the good looking barber's hair and vice versa, so the poor looking barber is a better barber.
For the Horse/Friday riddle, A man rides to town on Friday, stays 3 days, and leaves on Friday works very easily if the Horse's name is Friday.
I *like* the friday solution! Good one |

I like your barber riddle solution better than mine!
The horse called Friday must be THE solution! Good work! |

Well, I have been thinking on the Hats Off riddle, and I think the obvious answer is the correct one. 50% is the highest percentage.
Since the guesses must be simultaneous, there is no way for one guess to affect another, via some secret communication.
Since the outcome of one coin toss has no effect on another, you can not make any assumptions about the color of a hat you don't see, based on those you do.
Since at least one player must guess correctly, and no players can guess incorrectly, you have to guess a sequence of 1-3 random binary (red or blue) variables. The chance of guessing right a sequence of length N is (1/2) ^ N, which decreases as N goes up. Therefore, the maximum chance is obtained by only one player guessing.
I can find no tricks in the wording, either, to point to a 'sneaky' solution, and the sentence 'The same game can be played....' really seems to state that there isn't.
Good work on those other riddles, though! The splitting of sock pairs solution was excellent! _________________ Don't force it - use a larger hammer.

Maggot: You are probably right, I came to same solution! But don't this solution bother you, it's just a confirming of a solution already suggested by the riddle teller!?? |

I've read through this thread, and the riddles, and it's real interesting.
About the hat problem, take a look at this page: Click me! Now! Not very simple. _________________
