Is There A way to Restore Damaged Savegames?

...i just thought i'd replay gothic 1 so i started over. the game keeps crashing every now and then. and one time while i was playing and downloading something from the net, my modem caused some error to the computer. i have the safeway modem, the one with the many bugs... so when i restarted i saw that the game had somehow restored it's default settings in everything, and in the slot where i had saved my game there was only a white screen, no data about the game. and inevitablly, it wouldn't load!
any idea if it can be restored? and why the hell does the ame crash so often? that didn't happen before.....

You can only try two things:
1. set all the graphics stuff to minimum. If your save loads save again in another slot.
2. puzzle with the files from another savegame. Maybe you replace the damaged file.

i kind of had a look at the files. i think that the one damaged is the log.sav file. i guess that contained the info about the character. but what about the white screen...? nevermind.... i'll try. but i guess i'll have to replay....
thanks for the help.
