how do you cast spells?

another dumb question here but I have not found out how to cast any magic or how to use scrolls and potions can anyone help please

Enter menu mode (right click) and click the "active magic" icon at the bottom of the screen (third from left). This opens the magic menu, from which you can select the spell, scroll, power etc that you wish to use.

Exit the menus and press "R" to enter casting mode, and left-click to cast.

Voila!

Edit: Oh, and potions - go to your inventory page, left-click the potion to pick up, left-click the character to drink.
