I just finished it as a mage, and I hafta say it was alot more satisfying. Yes, it's brutally painful in the beginning, creeping up on the Bloodhounds to steal the Orc Hammer took an hour, but it was worth it! Going into the orc fortress and mowing down waves of orcs with Ye ol' group freeze spell and storm fist gives you that, Arch back and Cackle feeling. (ok, not nearly as cool as the feeling of pummeling mud, but hey, that's personal)

Absolutely, Shrapnel, without reading the FAQ (which I don't recommend you do the first time you play the game) you'd never know exactly what you needed to be a mage, so when presented with the option, you'd show up on Corristo's door with no Skillpoints... Yay Firebolt!
