I like Runequest as well. The supporting material was great, and it was the first game to really try for 'location' armor. This lead to some pretty short battles though. I remember one campaign where we modified the RQ rules to fit the Trojan war. THAT was a blast.

p&p as well? ... well, now I'm really confused  I guess I'd have to say Warhammer FRP, since it was the first I ever played. I was too inexperienced to realise its mechanics (back then) were a load of rubbish, but I was totally bowled over by a game in which imagination really was the only limit. So I was affected by the concept of the RPG, really, rather than any of WFRP's particular charms. Mechwarrior was my most memorable p&p experience by far.
Finding out about p&p RPGs was definitely a key moment in my ongoing experience as a gamer, but I have to say that certain computer & videogames have had more profound effects on me. Nothing to do with the pros/cons of either medium, game quality or anything like that... I'm just more susceptible to one than the other. |

Gothic. It made me recognize that PCs are good for games that don't fall into the FPS catagory.

KotOR, although it wasn't the first overwhelming RPG I played, it did made me have more fun in RPG's than the rest. second place is Gothic 2, which was the first "real" RPG I played. (the rest where short, and didn't impressed me so much).

Not a true RPG, but I will have to go with Deus Ex. It was the game that introduced me into anything that was RPG. Before, I was only intrested in FPS, but to hell with those now. Now I'm trying to get my hands on everything that I've missed (luckly, I'm having some success). |

Luckily FPS and RPG are merging these days. Everyone thinks FPS need backstories now. Deus Ex 2 was kind of cool but the story left something to be desired, and the environments weren't as open as Deus Ex. What will be the best merging of the genres in the next year? Maybe STALKER or VtM: Bloodlines? I would like to see a game like Thief 3 but with the "free roaming city" aspect expanded much more.
Is anyone gonna play the open alpha of Guild Wars that is on over E3? You can play for free, you get bumped to level 15, and it runs for about four days. You just download a small client and it streams the program to your computer. It looks like it might avoid the grinding/boring travel aspects of most MMORPGs. |

Ultima 3: Exodus on the Atari 800. This game completely blew me away, it was my first RPG and once I figured out just how deep that game was, I was hooked on the genre forever. Great graphics and music for the time, and I'll never forget the first time my ship got sucked into the whirlpool after avoiding it the whole game. |

Fallout(s).
I can't believe only one person by now mentioned Fallout. To me, Fallout(s) opened a whole new dimension in gaming. They showed me that you can have games that are not sterile, flat and one-dimentional. Ah well...

"Adventure" on the Atari 2600 owned me for a long time. I think this game is the first action CRPG  The invisible dungeon rocked, and the easter eggs were cool!

I wouldn't call it the first action CRPG as much as I'd call it the first adventure game. 
But that's not what I'm here to tell you. If you want, I have it. In fact, I have the source code for it. So you can make it run on whatever computer you want.

I must admit although I a confirmed D&D (AD&D2E) Forgotton Relams nut now, I will always have a place in my gaming heart for Warhammer FRP. It was my first too and I loved the atmosphere it created (and the fact that your jobs had names). I also think Shadowrun 3E is brilliant as well - but that could be because I played one of my best and most enjoyable character in a Shadowrun campaign.
As for CRPGS well Deus Ex left me gobsmacked it was excellent - I also loved Fallout because of the scale and Torment was one of the best stories I have ever come across in a game but, for me, the game, or rather series of games, that I loved the most had to be Baldurs Gate, TotSC, Baldurs Gate 2:SOA and ToB. Played all together one after the other produced an epic still not matched. The overiding story arc, the constant moral choices, the interesting and likeable NPC's and the masses of side quests/easter eggs and general other extra stuff made this, to me, pure gaming heaven.

For me I'd have to say Chrono Trigger, Deus Ex, and Final Fantasy 7. In that order.
