I just started Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, a few ? |
|
I've heard legends about this fabulous rpg, so I figured I should try it out. So far it's great, I love it. However, I'm at the part at the beginning when you enter the circus and meet that genie dude. I answered his riddle and proceeded. However, all those werewolves seem to be a little too hard for my party. I've tried several times and different tactics, but I just dont have enough health potions to take down. Is there a nearby store that sells health potions, or should I level up some more, if so, where can I level up? Also, how do I damage the wraiths in the tent because my katanas seem to have no effect? |

The Werewolves are Illusions. If you don't believe in them (In Game-Terms if you do nothing to hurt them) they will vanish. This might take some time but they are not able to hurt you if you don't fight them. The Shadowmonsters are real though
I think the best Way for this fights is to turn of the AI and select the Shadows manually. The Werewolves might follow you around until you beat the Gnome-Illusionist, just ignore them _________________ "Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule."

You need magical weapons to harm the shadow creatures. As mentioned turn off the AI (click the lantern in the corner) and ignore the werewolves... if you don't hurt them they can't hurt you.
You should have a few magical weapons from the first dungeon ... remember just because you prefer katana doesn't mean you're limited to using them. Magic missile is a real shadow killer as well. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

I have no spellcasters. My main char is a fighter, wizard slayer, and my partner is a pure fighter. I've tried clicking on all the scrolls that I have and none give me the option to write magic. I have flame arrow but I can't write the magic. Should I restart the game as a spellcaster? Do weapons, imbued with magical powers work? I can try looking for some of those. |

There is no Need to restart ... except if you haven't any magical Weapons and no Savegame before you entert the inner Tent. In the first Dungeon there are a view Magical Weapons like the Sword of Chaos or some +1 Weapons. If you have sold them you might have enough Money to buy new ones at the Adventurers Mart on the Promenade. While it is not necessary to have a Mage it is really needed to have magical Weapons. Remember that you can use all kind of Weapons even if you haven't Profencies in the Weapon-Categories.
BG II is a huge Game so it is very important that you play a Charakter you like because you are spending a lot of time with him. So if you want to play a Wizard-Slayer play one ! While it is posible to finish the Game without a Caster I would consider to recruit one of the NPCs. You will have a easier time and they offer a lot of Atmosphere with their Banters and maybe a Bonus-Quest or two _________________ "Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule."

You probably won't finish the game without a spellcaster: Several pivotal battles are won or lost by your abilty to dispel magical protections at the very least.
Additionally, battles are easier with magical healing available. Potions are pretty common but no substitute for a real healer in the party.
The NPCs are great... give a few a try. They really add personality to the game.
I did solo the game once... but I did it with a fighter/cleric and it wasn't pretty. I had to be VERY high level to do anything (Throne of Bhaal was installed) ... of course I was very high level pretty quickly. I didn't beat any of the dragons alone, though... _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

Having never played this game I might be missing something. Did you have to enlist an NPC just to beat the dragons ... or is there something else going on?
PS - I've not been to the states since deciding to pick this up, so I've started Wiz 8 for my summer game. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

Actually, the game can supposedly be soloed with a Fighter/Mage/Cleric. But I may be mistaken, a F/M/Thief could have been the right class. But it just loses most of its appeal, the recruitable NPCs are just fun.
As for Mages - a Mage and Cleric are essensial to fininshing the game. In my opinion. A thief can be skipped, but since there are no pure thiefes in the game, and playing a thief is just choise limiting, it is made even clearer. In Throne of Bhaal you can definately just dump whoever is taking in the thief slot, for Sarevok, and probably the Mage too. |

The dragons didn't need to be beat... they're optional fights. One is flat out in the way, though... I cheesed that one with a well known trick. It's technically not a cheat or exploit... just cheesy.
As for the triple-multiclasses....
Fighter/Mage/Cleric starts slow but ends godly, it is true... but slow starting is hard to overcome. Your spell list is pitiful... but you do get a few self-enhancements and can cure yourself after battle.
F/M/T would let you stealth by a lot of things... which is handy but like other games (cough*fallout*cough) bypassing content, while fun, leaves you with a character that is underleveled for the mandatory battles. UNLIKE fallout there is NO way of bypassing end game battles. It is D&D, after all (and not Planescape: Torment). _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

I actually never bothered to try out the triple multi classes. I find that ... strange, I mean I haven't even tried out all the normal classes ... yet for starters. And now I can't even play the game - I just can't stand the combat. After ToEE. |
