"Azura's Shrine" (quest spoiler!) |
|
After reading the "modern heretics" book as requested by Martin, i found my way to the 'gutted mine' (which is otherwise hidden) where i must kill the five afflicted brethren (vampires i think) so that i can retrieve a daedric artifact (Azura's star). I managed to kill the first two fairly easy but there is one "super human" guy who seems indestructable. He is equipped with a shiny huge two handed glass sword and he is almost invincible, two or three blows from that thing and i'm dead, i am just a simple humble wood-elf thief with max dex' stealth and marksman. Magic swords and bows have little effect on him as he re-heals fast. In desperation i sought to exit the mine but he quickly detected and followed me out of the mine. Other enemies in the area quickly latched-on and tried to have a go at this super strength attacker who runs after me as i run for miles, i cannot shake him off, there seemed no solution .....until i found an exploit of which i have a sneaky suspicion is put there to help....?
In the furthest reaches of the 'gutted mine' are some square shaped wooden constructions, there is also a false wooden partition hiding another room, these wooden planks can be manouvered with Z key and be placed to form a barrier, there is a 'well-placed' wooden pillar that is just restrictive enough to prevent the attacker from slipping through the space between.....
So having 'set the scene' i ran to the other section where 'superman' was patrolling and enticed him with a well placed arrow to the head (in sneak mode resulting in a +3 hit) then running as fast as possible with the foe in hot pursuit on my heels and hurling frost balls and my life bar falling rapidly. It is a work of art to retrace ones route under such conditions but with one last ounce of health left i detoured round the wooden structure to find myself face-to-face with the attacker who was now held by the restriction of the wood beams, he was striking with heavy two handed deep lunged blows and just missing the skin of my nose yet i was at least 5 metres distance from him!
Pumping many arrows into him was too wasteful so instead i equipped the 'katana-of-burden' rather than the 'dagger-of-burning' because yes - the weapons do have varying 'reaches' - finally after a rapid dozen strikes whilst evading his deadly blows he was dead, and of course i levelled-up on the next sleep....most enjoyable!. _________________ Forever aches my wretched soul, for Chromanin locked in that dark hole, though crypted key i've yet to learn, he knows one day i will return. |

Yes, sometimes you just have to be inventive. I didn't do the Azura's Star quest at all because I already had a Daedric artefact on me when Martin asked, and I gladly gave it away:
I had accidentally stumbled upon Umbra's hideout eraly on in the game (level 2 or so), and my character had not th slightest chance going up against the ebony-plated fury that was umbra this time around. After dying for the 100th time, I fled upstairs... and there was a poison trap in the middle of a room. So this woman started to chase me across the room, and I hit the gas release each time I zipped by. It took several healing potions and several (real-time) minutes, but in the end she died from the poison, and I had her equipment. When I stumbled across Clavicus Vile's shrine shortly after, I just had to trade in Umbra for his mask. Bingo! Good deal, plus I avoided the horrible CTD bug connected with doimg Clavicus Vile's quest. _________________ Jaz |

Haven't done this one yet. Question, do Vamps have any elemental weakness? Which spells are most effective in taking them down? I try to avoid close contact; robes aren't very good at stopping swords!! _________________ If God said it, then that settles it!
