I was up until 3 am last night playing this game, but i'm starting to get frustrated. I must have 8 quests in my log book, and never sure where to go as I don't have a map, and very little gold. I'm not complaning, I love it, but it seems like no matter what I do I keep getting my arse kicked by every creature I come across, especially since it seems like there's always more than one now. This game is tough! And it's so huge it's getting overwhelming.

I went into the config file and enabled poition hotkeys but can't figure out how to do it. I'm at Lees farm, and need about 800 more XP points to get to level 4 and my strength is at 17, my dex at 20 and I've learned how to sneak, skin animals, and have 20 XP points on my bow, as I thought it would be pretty cool to get proficient in that, but it seems like every time I use use the bow it does nothing. Do you guys think I shoucl start over or should I just plod along as I am and hope for the best? This is the first time I've played a "real" RPG, so maybe I've bitten off more than I can chew. Thanks.

I would say save and then start practicing the bow on the sheep which are behind Onars farm, once you see how it works to hit with the bow you wil be able to use iton the wild animals such as scavengers and bloodflies too. (and dont forget to reload first because killing all those sheep will make the farmers pretty at you)
As for the game beingt too hard, just get experience by doing small quests and killing the smaller monsters. Be sure to get the leather armor from Matteo the merchant, it will cost you a bit but it makes you quite a bit stronger. Just dont give up and dont bother about restarting, you will do that eventually when you finish your current game

P.S. im glad you found out how to get the bow in your hand now

I would suggest you start over. Since this is your first RPG you´ve made the mistake everybody makes once: you´ve lost focus. You should concentrate on the most important stats first and do the minor stuff later. RPGs have a tendency to become much harder if you spread your points too far instead of learning a few skills to the max.
Skinning animals and sneaking aren´t important yet and 20 points on bow is too much. In the long run this is no big deal, investing the next 5-10 levels into melee combat and Str will repair the char, but until you´re there it´s really hard.
Starting over is probably the better idea. Then concentrate on Str and single handed, get lockpick and put a few points in hunting if you want to become Bosper´s apprentice.
As said before, explore Xardas´tower and the area nearby carefully. You can find lots of useful things.
If you´ve already visited Onar´s farm, I hope you´ve found out that Diego offers to lead you there. He kills all the critters and you get the XP.

Thanks for the tips. Actually, I've gone back to town. They wouldn't let me into the mine area there anyway, so I'm going to basically start over. I finally figured out how to make the bow work thanks to the good folks at this forum. I didn't realize you had to hold the foward key and the mouse key at the same time. Duh! I've decided to just keep going and see if I can make a go of it as if it were my real life! Thanks again.
