Is Pickpocket worthless in this game?

I started a Rogue and chose to try Pickpocket as I like it when it is implemented well in a game. So far, however, I find almost nothing to pickpocket. Can someone tell me whether it is eventually of value or just a waste of points at level changes?

Griefers love it online as you can loot the living heck 'legally' out of people you drop if they don't hit respawn really quick.

Beyond that... well.. I imagine there might be a few keys you can steal (it's alluded to in the rogue training room). I don't know for sure as I tend to just hack things down.

Although pickpocket is not as profitable as BG2, it has its application (I give open locks the highest priority - some player modules do not allow door bashing).

In SP, it is doable to rob shops and quest items from NPCs. Especially for the latter, I found some quests that I had to retrieve some items - I could kill the NPC (risk an alignment hit), bribe the NPC with x amount of gold, persuade the NPC to give up the item (high skill and chasrima), or pickpocket for it.

I'd say you're porbably better off going with a more rounded rogue character, with lockpicking, stealthing and trap detecting/disarming.
