Which brings us onto combat. This is no Diablo click-fest - by its very nature Dungeon Siege is more of a team management game than an action-RPG, despite what Microsoft will tell you. Each character basically fights by him or herself with some initial directional guidance from the player. You can also set up combat and movement 'attitudes' for each character that limit their actions to what you think appropriate. Instructions for movement, for instance, allow them to 'move freely', 'engage' or 'hold ground', while combat instructions are 'attack freely', 'hold fire' and 'defend'. You can also set up your party in a formation - with six available. To give even more scope to the concept you can assign RTS-style keyboard shortcuts to each unit, or to a combination of units, allowing you quick access to, say, magic users or ranged combat experts alone.

According to this statement in the review it seems as though it would be more a game along the lines of Command and Conquer.

You have got to think they were really reaching making a lowly farmer become the hero of the world. I suppose you need to start somewhere however.

Do other people think that because it is backed by Microsoft it will need a patch upon download ?

All games need a patch upon installation... whether they know it or not.

Dungeon Siege... I admit, I was kind of leery of it... but it looks nice. Very pretty, anyways.

As for starting a farmer?

Imagine a teenage hobbit bearing the fate of the world tracking across endless wilderness. It's just not done in fantasy.

Hey... Luke Skywalker was a farmer too. Obviously Dungeon Siege is a rip off of Star Wars! Someone tell Lucasarts so they can sue!

If its made by Microsoft, it will tave tons of bugs.

The question is, how many will there be? Will it have serious issues like Gothic?

If you consider Gothics issues serious... you're going to run screaming in terror from the bugs Morrowmind, Neverwinter Nights, and Dungeon Siege are going to be released with...

I'm going to reserve judgement on Dungeon Siege until I play it. I like the idea of adding a pack mule (adds more realism), although it's could easily be pure hell trying to defend it. I also like the idea of more free-thinking followers, if they do the AI right. There are a lot of 'ifs' with this one, so I'm going to keep an open mind about it until I play it.

Pack mules better not be too powerful, otherwise it's going to be a big strike against the game in my book. I mean, how long is a mule going to stand up against monsters? Hehe, maybe you could outfit your pack mule with plate barding that is usually reserved for horses. Then maybe I could see it holding its own for a little while.

They did mention something about the pack mules and I don't think they can protect themselves.

they can kick and such and level up so they can defend themselves somewhat apparently

read that here:

re RTS/RPG mixes, u know turn based strategy games and RPGs have been mixed, but rarely RTSs . The engine is phenomenal IMO.

For those who think games are without flaws... You can download the patch here:The 3.1 Patch for Total Annihilation.
It's headline states: Features and Fixes.
Fixes means something is broken or in other words bugged.
The patch mostly adds features, but it also solves some (admittedly small) bugs.

Games are too complex to be released with no bugs at all (any reasonably big software product is for that matter).

We're all old time cynical bastards. We'll believe a game bugfree when we see it.

You stated that the game had NO bugs. No is none. No is zero.
I just say that it did have bugs. If you needed them fixed or not is besides the point.
The second point I made is that it is simply impossible to make a piece of software that will do something like 500.000 to 1.000.000 lines of code and not being able to have a single bug in it, when it is released.

That said I am aware of the fact that TA is one of those few games that was nearly bug free and that some things could be learned from their Q&A.
